Honestly just watch Otakudaikun's Fate Videos. He goes in depth about the type Moon universe to the point where you should have a grasp on what's Happening in fate strange fake he even explains who Ayaka truly is even though the anime won't reveal that until either next season or the season after that
Who wrote this as April Fool's fanfiction back in 08 and now nearly 20 years later it gets an anime adaptation😂 and the only reason it works is Canon is because type Moon and fate deal with the alternate timelines and Multiverse theories

Fate/Strange Fake and Sentenced to be a Hero truly has set the standard for action anime quality, fluidity, and consistency.
I think jjk animations is crazier and ill go as fas as to say that the 2014 fate is better then fakes not to say that the fakes is bad is just that i think the 2014 is better
The biggest thing about starting with Strange fake, as you said, is that it can be confusing since it doesn't care to explain concepts again, sort of like how Heaven's feel sprints through the start of Stay night. Obviously the best place to start is Today's menu in the Emiya household or Grand Carnival

As a Fate stan. I will say that for Strange/fake to at least get a quality experience you should at least Watch Zero, stay night, UBW, and oddly enough Apocrypha makes a pretty good entry as its one of the first " Unofficial " grail wars in the Series like Strange Fake.
Especially to Get Familiar with Gilgamesh, Hercules, and Waiver.
As well as getting a feel for how Grail wars usually function because the Draw and Hook for Strange/Fake is "turning the grail war on its head" you get to truly see how unusual the Snowfield grail war is.
