About Van-Fem. He has not appeared before(but he was mentioned in a cut scene, francesca names him as someone who killed her before) but he is one of the 27 Dead Apostle Ancetors, they are essentially the top of the top of vampires, if you thought Jester was strong the doesn't even approach the DAA. And since Jester comes from his lineage being forsaken by Van-Fem makes him weaker. I think they might talk a bit more about him in realtion to flat in the beginning of season 2 so I wont say anymore as to not risk spoilling stuff.
The other thing that I'd like to calrify is about Richard getting the swrod from the shadow. He explained to Ayaka that his other noble phantasm is the ability to receive help from people he met, so far we've seen Pierre Basile who helped him with his sight, Loxley(Robin Hood) who helps him by shooting arrows from his shadow, an unamend person who helps him with all sorts of magecraft and in this episode another unamed person who gave him the sword.
For the Kuruoka couple, Sigma left them alive because killing them would make Tsubaki feel worse. So he left them alive as meatballs who can’t speak or move, so all they can do is lay there and suffer.

The Lancers in Fate Zero and UBW are different
Artoria's whole flaw was that she obsessed with being the perfect king that she became more of a symbol than a person. Every decision she ever made was "what a perfect king would do" and not "what Artoria herself, as king, should do". The role needed her to be human, but she never did, leading to the fall of her kingdom.
The burden of her kingship and seeing all that in hindsight was what led to her decision in Zero: the wish of resetting her legacy. But that wish was also flawed. She didn't understand that her legend, her legacy, became the standard for ALL future kings succeeding her. The whole debate can be boiled down to both Gil and Alex going, "Look, we're all kings here. We set the standard and we're proud of what we've accomplished, flaws and all. Why are you ashamed of what you left behind? Are you that embarrassed of your own legacy?"
What Richard understood from the Banquet of Kings was exactly the interpretation people should've gotten from that moment all those years ago, but not everyone did. Add to the fact he too is a flawed king. He was a good general and a knight, but not a king.

Van-fem actually isnt really important in strange fake plot wise. He's not even a fate character technically lol. He's from type moons other visual novel series, Tsukihime. He's mostly just teased here for hardcore type moon fans who may know him from Tsukihime lore.
