  1. Now, this is just a rumor. I don't know if it's true. But I heard Gamera is really neat, and apparently, he is filled with turtle meat. And I could be mistaken, but I think we've been eating Gamera.

  2. An interesting fact about Gamera: Despite being one of Godzilla's competitors, he came about becasue of Daiei's ambition to recreate the success of Hitchcock's The Birds.

They had distributed that film in Japan and knowing that Hitchcock wouldn't make a sequel, decided to make something of their own, using rats instead of birds, and naturally make them giant from radiation as was the style at the time. However, when the plan to have pet store rats wreak havoc on miniatures didn't go well, as the pet store rats were too docile, they paid local citizens bring them rats from alleys, the forests and the sewers, this worked better as they were more feral, but some rats escaped and got into the neighboring buildings, which didn't make them any friends and the film, called Horde of Rats (or something to that regard) was shut down by the health department. It's been said that on the way back from another country and trying to come up with a replacement, Daiei's CEO or president looked out the window of his plane and saw either an island or a cloud in the shape of a turtle and he came up with the idea of a giant flying turtle.

  3. Crazy to think that the Heisei Gamera trilogy is one of the best trilogies ever made. no joke. I'd put it up there with Lord of the Rings

  4. i love this era of the Shadowrama. I remember it being kind of jarring at first with the fat shadows and Tom's voice. (my first couple episodes were Season 1 reruns)

  5. I genuinely applauded after the "Tibby" song. As good as, if not better than, "Creepy Girl" and "Master Ninja Theme Song". What thousands of years of human culture has been leading up to, for sure!

  6. Little did the scientist declaring Gamara soon to be dead from radiation know that at some point in the near future he would be swinging around on parallel bars. He would even perform a perfect dismount as well. There….may have been brain eating aliens and a blade headed bull dog. I don't remember that part so well.

  7. Cut, cut! Let's do that again… I think they must have dragged those american extras off the street 🙂
Also, notice the print-through analogue audio at the beginning – Recorded on U-matic maybe?

  8. On a serious if wild note, at right about the 9-minute mark they talk about planes going undetected due to radar-absorbing coatings. This was released 1965!

  9. My best friend and I used to ad lib movies together in his living room when we were kids. I’m 74. We were ahead of our time. Love MST3K. I would strongly recommend MXC, Most Extreme Elimination Challenge if youre a fan of MST3K. ‘Don’t get eliminated.’

  10. Uh…….what about the fact the US shot down another country's jet aircraft? It had nuclear weapons on board, but no news on the impending nuclear war……………………..hmmmmm………………..
