Generally speaking, framing things as systematic issues is more useful than interpreting them as individual issues. In this context, what that means is that most people — especially once we move on from childhood to actual adult life — do not have an attention deficit problem, they have an energy deficit problem.
Depending on your commute to work, you might have as little as 6 hours to get done everything you need to get done that day before it's time to go to sleep for the next day. If you eat into your sleep to increase your off-work time, you get more leisure time, but at the expense of being more tired.
In either case, totally devoting half an hour or more to a single activity can very easily start to seem like a waste of time. It feels much more fulfilling if you can accomplish multiple things in the same block of time, such as doing laundry, cooking, or socializing. Of course, that's the ideal— there's only so much you can actually absorb if you're splitting your attention multiple ways, or just plain exhausted from a hard day's work. The ceiling of art you can enjoy is artificially limited.
Now, there is something to be said about the person who does not understand this and so, when they inevitably miss something in a series because they happened to not be totally tuned in at a particular moment, makes it other people's problem by claiming that the creators fucked up, but ultimately the issue is a systemic one. Netflix is accommodating people who, rightly or wrongly, do not have the time or energy to pay 100% attention to television.
