For years, you all have asked me to check out David Coverdale and I never knew what band he was in. Until I realized it was The White Stripes! I mean, Whitesnake! I swear, I’m such a noob I cross these pathways in my head all the time. I figured I’d start with Whitesnake’s biggest hit before I dive deep into David Coverdale’s voice, which I must admit. . . I SWOON over. I can’t believe it took me this long! Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Whitesnake for the first time, performing “Here I Go Again”. ————————— ————————————————– ———————————————- Performed by Whitesnake – Words and Music by David Coverdale, Bernie Marsden —————————————– ————————————————– ——————————– I definitely recommend watching the original video without interruptions. one of the guitarists that played for white snake made a song that blew me of my feat as part of an anime show about a former singer who is now an average office worker and misses his days on stage, the song name is cautionary warning by John Sykes
I remember it on old school with will Ferrell. You're my boy blue!
He was really great, but when I saw him live in 2016 it was pretty …. bad, as if he did not care for his voice properly. Such a pity though! You can find the videos from this particular event Dolina Charlotty (in Poland, 2016). <3 still one of my fave bands!
Oh Tawny, the world was a better place with you in it…
Emerso, Lake and Palmer. Please.
I love how you analyze the technique behind the sound. Here some 40 years later, David Coverdale's voice is gone. It sounds blown out. Was it because of abuse? Or was this technique abusive? This could be something for up and coming singers to learn. Could he have been able to retain his longevity by doing something in his technique?
The woman in the video was David Coverdale's wife at the time Tawny Kitaen. Unfortunately she passed a couple of years ago.
You should also listen to Whitesnakes new lead singer. Dino Jelusick.
Please do reaction to Deep Purple Burn from California Jam! It's live perfo with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes as lead co-singers!
I realy like you and your riactions, but a bit less stops and repeads would be much better. On some Point it gets booring my Dear😢
Big greeting for you and everyone of your channel I love it a lot.
I would like to challenge you in order will make a video where you could analyze two songs which ones are : the song kiss of the singer prince vrs and hairspray queen of band nirvana
We wanted to know your critical and comparison about their technical vocal
The girl's name is Tawny Kitaen and she was David Coverdale's girlfriend at the time unfortunately she died in 2021.
The name 'Whitesnake' is a reference to his eeeerrrr………….man friend!
I like to play this song on a loop to annoy my boss, lol. But it's a great song. My favorite Whitesnake song
If you loved this, you should listen to some songs by Deep Purple from the period when David Coverdale was their lead singer. Especially the song Mistreated.
Oh yes, I am quite happy, Lizzy, that you discover piece by piece my own personal music history (Nightwish, Heart, Whitesnake and so many more) :D. Now you finally found David Coverdale and (in my opinion) one of the greatest songs in rock music history. From the first day on this song was published it became one of my very personal life songs. I heard it for the first time shortly after my parents passed away when I was 19 and not much later nearly my whole family was gone for different reasons. This song accompanies me for over 30 years now and I am still not tired of listening to it. Davids voice is fantastic, I also really love the guitar sound (e.g. the chords after "I know what it means"), the whole song is a masterpiece for me.
It is really great to hear your opinion about this song and get some sort of analysis about singing style and Davids voice. Really glad to see and hear it :).
And by the way – yes, you are right, David joined Deep Purple for a certain time (also one of my favourite bands of all time). One of the songs written during this time is "Soldier of Fortune", written by Ritchie Blackmore and David Coverdale (what a fabulous combination :)). Do yourself a favor and checkout this live and unplugged version of this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PklxyHBU_k. David is some years older, but still a fantastic singer. It gets me shivers every time I listen to this song. Perhaps you can check this out (and perhaps give us your reaction to this song? :))? Anyway – thanks again very much for this entertaining and interesting reaction (once again ;)).
Check Coverdale out in Deep Purple .. I'm that old 😮
Is she medicated?
Please listen to Dino Jelusick and his band Jelusick. Or any of his Collabs with other artists. Dino is arguably the best rock vocalist of this generation. Hands-down. 💯🤷♂️🕺
You mentioned where the name White snake came from. Well he named the band after…… well his Johnson!🤭🤭
He was on Burn by Deep Purple. Great album too!!!
Being alone = 24/7 being hugged and kissed (and what not 😏) by the most gorgeous flexible woman ever lived 😂😂
Whitesnake, White Stripes, White Lion, Great White, Winger, and Warrant🎶😉👍🏽
Rock God! He oozes sensuality and heat and does so looking cool! 😎
Tawny Kitaen and this video pushed a lot of us through puberty at full throttle in the late-80s.
The dancer on the cars is the legendary Tawny Kitaen. We sadly lost her not too long ago. Her and David were in a relationship at the time of this video.
That tall guy who played that guitar solo was the one and only Adrian Vandenberg aka
"The Flying Dutchman". He is a talented player and also a very kind and humble guy
I would love to know what you make of "Only My Soul" , my personal favourite from D.C.
Whitesnake was great.
You should definitely listen to Tom Keifer/Cinderella.
Gypsy Road for great and unique vocals. Very underrated
Thank you Elizabeth for sharing this. DC its one of my favorite singers . Do you must analized more songs of DC. REGARDS
Whitesnake has a number of claimed meanings. For a long time, David Coverdale jokingly claimed it referred to a particular one of his body parts (use your imagination). Google will also bring up several other meanings that are entirely different.
David Coverdale – like Geoff Tate from Queensryche – is naturally a baritone.
The dancer is actress/model Tawny Kitaen, who sadly was known for her addictions and who died a couple of years ago from heart disease. She was David Coverdale's girlfriend at the time of the video; they later married two years later and divorced two years after that.
That "break" in between words may very well be an edit; remember, editing was done either by punching in and out (hitting record right at a specific spot) or using a razor blade and tape.
One thing possibly missing in the review is perspective; coming from an opera background, Elizabeth likely thinks of a vocal performance as a singular thing. However, in the world of popular music, lead vocals are often doubled, tripled, or more. There are a number of places in the song where it is clear that David Coverdale's voice is at least tripled with multiple parts, and that can definitely have dramatic effects on the vocal quality, making it sound thicker and fuller than it would be were it a singular recorded voice.
I prefer the original version that Whitesnake recorded for their 1982 album – Saints & Sinners.
I'm not sure but I think this song was written on a trip in portugal… From Algarve to Lisbon
Now that you're in the 80s, you gotta check out Blackie Lawless from W.A.S.P., one of the most unique voices you'll ever hear!
Love Ain't No Stranger was the first song of theirs I heard, and it's the one I like best.
"Where does the band name White Snake come from? I need to look that up." Do not check Urban Dictionary.
This is an iconic video, for sure, but to truly dissect a vocal performance, I think it's most important to listen and not look. As I lived in the 80s as a middle teen when this song came out, I was blown away with Coverdale's performance–especially the on-pitch scream toward the end. It is not only on pitch, but it has a scratch and grind that is unmatched. I can't imagine that it was reproduced time and time again in concert, especially now that he's 72. Nevertheless, it was captured on tape, and it was his voice–remarkable.
David Coverdale has one of the best voices ever…many compared him to Robert Plant…but its really not the same. And even his speaking voice is calm and soothing….i love when he read some Christmas Poems a few years back…..amazing.
The stuff that David Coverdale did with Jimmy page was awesome (Coverdale Page). Also, I believe that David Coverdale was the original lead singer for Deep Purple as well..maybe?
whitesnake's Slow an' easy is a mint track
Listen to the Saints and Sinners version of Here I go Again that came out 5 years before the one we all know.
These 80s hard rock bands had always beautiful girls models in their music videos with concept around love. 80s is the decade of peace and love❤
Another great song by White Snake is Judgment Day. One of my favorites! And it's underrated in my opinion.
