Shaman King is a series that has earned a pretty high status in the realm of Manga, but not so much in anime thanks to the first verison of the Shaman King anime going in its own direction at one point. Regardless, Shaman King’s original anime serves as a major reason that helped get myself and so many others in the series in general as it would be put on the FoxBox in the United States thanks to 4Kids. Let’s take a look back at what Shaman King was all about and where things may have gone wrong. Written By: Jordan Fringe Edited By: Jordan Fringe & David Strickland Channel Art By: Jerry Meehan

  1. To this day Yoh is my favourite Shounen Protagonist. Boy just wanted to chill and have a good time… if it were not for all this crazy shit going on he wouldn't even want to be shaman king… he does not seek recognition, glory or anything… he is just born into this world and time and has to do what he has to do

  2. Insted of getting one volume, i was promisted to get an omnibus(3 volumes) evey month. All i need now are volume 31 and 32. Did u know Hao was seen in the 4th volume on the second or third page?

  3. The only thing I hated about shaman king is how rushed the ending felt in the remake like I felt like I was missing bits of info every few episodes

  4. This was my 3rd favorite Shonen after the big 3. You Asukura is an original MC very chilled and relax nature . And I love the reboot. It’s not often the antagonist wins and becomes the hero of his own story.

  5. the first seroes did at least TWO things better than the remake…. 1) that opening is WAY better and epic, and 2) Ryo's voice is FAR more fitting for his looks in the first Shaman King than the second

  6. I know that by OG you mean that it aired first and was in childhood of many watching this, but it's still ironic considering that the "OG" went complemetly off the rails pretty fast while the new versions follows the manga source. It's a Fullmetal Alchemist type of deal.

  7. I watched it back on 4kids days but I just couldn't get into the overall artstyle and just the whole concept. I do know it was somewhat popular in my area.

  8. Was introduced to it through the manga. It was one of the first mangas I ever read. It was shaman king, dragon drive and one I can’t seem to remember,

  9. Shaman King is Takei’s Buddhism commercial, Sati is not perfect but certainly the most reasonable and mature of all shaman forces. It’s got great moments and Takei’s art is fantastic depicting auras, but that is pretty much it. It’s way too weird, not in a good way. I like the series, but Takei really destroyed it for questionable gags and strange philosophies.

  10. I’m subbed to this channel and didn’t realize this had even been uploaded. I love Shaman King and I especially love Yoh. He’s such a fantastic character and protagonist. The channel SeaGee has a really great video about Yoh that I recommend people watch It really frustrates me that Shaman King was not as popular as the other Shonens from the same time, as SK started shortly after One Piece and Hunter X Hunter and before Naruto, Bleach and Gintama. I only got into the series because I saw a wallpaper of anime characters and Yoh was on there. He caught my eye because of his design, so I did a basic google search and learnt the remake was coming out. I then promptly forgot about it until the remake started airing.

I watched the first episode and fell in love with the series. Not long after that, as I watched the remake weekly, I started watching this original anime and ended up finishing it just about the time the first batch of remake episodes hit Netflix. Even though the remake covers the entire story, I still think the original anime is worth watching because it takes a bit more time to build up Yoh and Manta as friends and it has that anime original ending. I totally called that ending when I watched it too. The original also had the frankly great cliffhanger to one of the last episodes, where Hao eats Yohs soul.

  11. I love the new Shaman King anime, but the only thing that i miss from the OG is Yoh's voice. The voice in the new anime is kinda bland and too similar to a lot of other anime protagonists. The more laid back voice he had in the 4Kids dub just fit his personality so much better.

  12. I was introduced to the manga in high school just before the 4 kids dub began to air. I was just young enough to really relate to the manga, but unfortunately just old enough to feel underwhelmed by the animated adaptation. I never got to finish either one though. Might be time to go back and figure it out.
