can't wait for this series to get to Season 34 in 64 years. (Aw, heck, I'm only on 27 at this point)
After modern Simpsons killed my interest in the show as a whole for (at least close to) a decade, I have recently started rewatching it on my phone during my lunch breaks at work. Not in order at first, kinda just picking a random classic era episode based on which synopsis at the moment got my attention, but at some point I went through season 4 in order from the beginning to the end.
So, without any harder "data" than that, I would say that season 4 might be my favorite season of the show. At least it has a ton of bangers in a row.
The monorail episode is one of the most epic big scale simpsons episode of all time
(suggestion for any future video similar to this one: no "self-deprecation")
The reason 4 the summer Season. Thank you, Cap and Austin! Your first 3 overviews were among my favorite videos in the history of the channel.
Season 2 was my favorite as well, but Season 4 was more polished and creative. I'm really curious what you think of Season 7 since that brought back the sentimental heart and got more quirky.
Simpsons is a 90's classic. That is also where it belongs, and where it should have stayed.
1:02:27 on the topic of Ralph as an actor, the show actually does bring it up one other time to my knowledge. In the Season 6 flash forward episode “Lisa’s Wedding”, there’s a blink and you’ll miss it gag that he grew up to become Sideshow Ralph on the TV.
The funniest Season 4 visual moment to me is the elaborate Get Smart-esque build up of Burns and Smithers going through all the security checks to the plant control room, only to get deposited into a shack with a rickety wooden door that a stray dog has wandered into.
I know you guys aren’t that big on South Park, but it’d be interesting to see the Cartoon Wars episodes covered in some form. The respect Matt & Trey have for The Simpsons and the frustration they have for Family Guy comes through pretty strongly in that. Same with the episode “Simpsons Already Did It”. I personally think all 3 shows were quality at one point in their own particular ways, but South Park has been more consistent and never dipped quite as low as the other two. I rewatched Season 4 of The Simpsons for this and it’s really refreshing to remember just how great it was.
