Why Fate Strange Fake has the Best Grail War!

  1. 8:33 That's why the 1st DLC was so good, it made me like Tsuchimikado Yasuhiro and Caster.

I do hope Strange Fake sticks the landing because it is a fascinating entry in the Nasuverse.

  2. Yeah you are full of shit.

The idea that strange fake does the holy grail war aspect better than any previous story is such a laughable claim. Even more when we have previous examples of how it should be going in the execution level and the level that we are at the moment. You claim there is an aspect of rooting for x character, but with only one volume to go and still lots of characters existing, do you think there is a chance for it to be a good conclusion? Strange fake takes what apocrypha did and multiplies it and I doubt It will land not only the ending but the entire characters story for all its cast.

All previous holy grail wars did then conflict better because they understood the scope of their story. In example in extra you have 128 masters but can only see the very few you fight against to understand their character.

Apocrypha basically did the right idea and took the idea of pacing the story and their cast better: we know that Roche likes Golem, we know that Avicebron wants to reach Eden but still despises humans, we know that he doesn't care for dying as long as Adam is complete. But his entire arc was complete earlier in the story. Now imagine if all servants and masters from apocrypha were left for their conclusion to be in the final volume.

This is exactly the mistake that fake did for their entire series: they kept their characters alive and introduced even more without completing their part in the story.

And this is just the novel side that is much more complete and complex than the anime, we know quite a lot from Gilgamesh original master but the anime cut all that. And the strange fake anime basically removes their characterization, background and information to create a void spectacle for anime fans.

Let me give you one example: in samurai remnant there is a moment that after Tsuchimikado loses, his brother comes to talk with you. He just accepts defeat and decides to do his work in another way separated from magic. This was one of my favorite moments in the entire game. It wasn't about fighting, servants or the holy grail war. The anime of strange fake doesn't allow moments like this to exist. It is all butchered in favor of fighting.

And that is one example, lets go to the masters, who should be developing in a fate series: who do you think is a better character? Sieg or Sigma? Lets take their entire anime series and go from episode 1 to 13. What and how is the development of both characters in both series. Their mechanics, living and so on. Sigma just feels like a empty paper, but he is an almost 30 year old man finally taking action that a literal days year old like Sieg had more drive than him.

All what you claim strange fake did could be achieved if the story actually cared for its cast, which isn't the case. I am curious to see the ending, but not because of the hope of who wins or which character I like, but more in a dread way to see how the author will finish it up, which I really have no hopes for it.

  3. The original works of each Fate title does a better job giving each participant in the wars some time to shine. The original Fate VN did it, FZ did it, even the manga adaptions did it well. Sadly, for what ever reason, episode limit or director not up to snuff, the anime didn't do all that well in that regard.

  4. It’s a shame no one reads Fate/Prototype Fragments. It’s like Strange Fake where each volume focus on different factions in the grail war. Well there’s only 5 volumes some end up sharing a volume. It’s like Fate/Zero but for Fate/Prototype. It gives us the small moments where each master and servant gets to hang out and get to know each other. Following the war from their perspective until either they die or are forced to drop out. It’s a good read along with Fate/Labyrinth. F/L, is a spinoff of Fragments and you can slot it in between volumes 4 and 5 of Fragments.

  5. Completely disagree sadly, so far this is the worst fate series in terms of writing so far, it's literally fan service for the fans, is it epic? Sure. But that's it, the cast is too stacked with characters that didn't get enough time to develop or present their world view in a meaningful way. It's all chaos and all the logic presented by fate so far has been ignored for cheap elements of surprise.
The fact that only one volume is left yet barely anyone died in a grail war is ridiculous
