Van-Fem’s not from Case Files (well he’s not in the anime anyway), but he’s a lore character from Tsukihime.

The 27 Dead Apostle Ancestors are basically the Vampire Big Wigs of the Nasuverse, the top dogs. Flat has connections with Van-Fem due to stuff in his backstory and Jester also, coincidentally, has connections to him due to his own backstory.

He’s essentially just cameo-ing here.

One of my favourite things about this is that Richard gets a second worse set of servants as a NP doing minor things to help him out. Loxley in episode 1 shooting arrows to intercept attacks, someone in episode 2 casting spells for him to help escape the police station, a guy this episode lending him his sword.

Fun-fact, normally in fate world there are no such things as Dead Apostle Ancestors, just like there are no servants in Tsukihime world either, because one “affirms” humanity whether the other one “denies” or “reject” humanity. The division between Fate and Tsukihime world occurred around 2017, so long after the official release of Fate Strange Fake, which was why Narita was super surprised about it when he first learnt about it, but then Nasu just said it doesn’t really matter for FSF because this is a unique world in between Tsukihime and Fate world, a blend of the two, essentially giving Narita green light to do whatever the fuck he wants by separating this novel from other fate series. So not even FGO is this unique and special in this regard, only in FSF can we find DAAs roaming around in a world with servants and grail wars going on.

The characters that are supposedly DAAs in Tsukihime world would mostly still exists in Fate world, but they are not necessarily vampires like their Tsukihime self. Those that are still vampires would have the abilities suppressed and unable to reach rank IX and become ancestors, but they would still be far stronger than other vampires and dead apostles. So even though here in FSF Van-Fem is a rank IX DAAs like in Tsukihime world, in his other appearances in Fate world he would just be a superior Dead Apostle (rank VII).

Oh yea, and in this episode, Jester mentioned that he would obtain the grail and destroy all humans and then re-affirm humanity when only assassin is left. The novel actually mentioned that he intended to use the grail to wake up the spider from South America to do so, which is ORT, technically one of the 27 DAAs as well (not dead apostle and not even a vampire but they just included him because he ate one of the 27DAAs, strong as fuck and has been observed to possess traits of vampiric nature, so he isn’t really a real DAA tbh in my book). ORT is described as one of if not the strongest enemy in entire Type Moon/Nasu franchise, so if this guy woke up then yea, the world is kinda fucked.

Some good news for you: The last volume for FSF will be out this summer in Japan, the the second season of anime will likely adapt it and you'll be able to see the end of this story in one go.

Also the mobile game FGO will also have a collaboration event this July as well so they'll probably write additional stories for all the FSF servants. If you enjoy FSF you're gonna eat good.

And fun fact: Prelati didn't manage to spy on the 5th Holy Grail War, because everybody hated her so much they drove her away, even Makiri Zouken out of all people didn't want her to be there.

This was such a nostalgic trip seeing Gil, Saber, and Iskander from Fate Zero was really special, can't wait for season 2 and for the final vol of the LN

Not sure if you remember this but arround the middle of the season Francesca was talking about the people who have killed her and she mentions Zelretch, Touko and Saint Germain but in the novel she actaully mentions a total of 7 characters and one of them is Van-fem. If you're curious the full list of characters is :"Old Man Kishur was first. Saint-Germain the hedonist; the fairy-tale witch who lives forever — oh, I guessed it’s ‘lived’ forever now(here she is refering to a meinster, maybe it's Alice Kuonji) — then there was that rich blood-sucker in Monaco(this is van-fem)… and a teacher at some school who uses Godo Word, a super old dialect(this is Satsuki Kurogiri)… and

14:10 in the early episodes, gil and tine talked about having parachutes ready in case the building was blow up (was played mostly for comedy back then), turns out they did actually prepare parachutes, and those got copy pasted in the fake world xD
