ロイヤルエンフィールド 500 JS バレット(レディッチ製)
Hello everybody. What have I got for you today? I’ve got uh a Reddicu built Royal Enfield 500 JS bullet. Uh this one is 1957, so it’s a year older than me. Yeah. Um, as you can see, it’s on magneto and it is the lighter frame. It’s one of the better frames this is. And it is a work in progress really. Um, I can’t run it up very easily. The carburetor is all blocked up and needs cleaning out. Um, but yeah, it’s all there in principle. It’s got the uh twinsided brake on it. So, you’ve got a 6-in brake on this side there, and you’ve got 6-in brake on this side. I’ll get the grass off it. So, it’s a double-sided brake. I see the engine numbers. JS. I think you can see that JS. Uh, which is the same as the frame number. So, it’s a Reddit built one. Um, looks like it’s leaking a little bit around the head gasket. Nothing that can’t be put right. Nice old bike. Nice old bike. It’s got an 18 L fuel tank on this one, so it should uh go for several miles. So, if you’ve never heard of a JS or you don’t know what a JS bullet is, it’s um the 500 version. I think they released it in 1953, I think, the 500 and ended it in 1961. Let me just fiddle about with this camera a minute because I don’t think you’re getting a lot of sound. Bear with me. There we go. Hopefully, you should get some sound now. Yeah. So, it’s got an AML monolock carburetor on it. Um, swinging arm. It’s a different frame. It’s It’s the same frame as the Interceptors. Basically, it’s an alternator electrics with an Lucas SR1 magneto and a nice genuine chronometric speedo. Now, the bike’s been covered in some sort of protection protective stuff. I think it’s quite sort of sticky, so you want a good clean up just as I got it. It’s going to get a new downpipe. Um, I don’t know where this downpipe came from. But it uh it doesn’t fit nicely. Not at all, I’m afraid. It’s it’s been heated up there and bent because it goes in too far there. It’s uh the other thing is it’s got comes down and then it goes straight and they they never did that. And I checked on Hitchcock’s website and um they’re selling these ones as well. There a straight bit there. They should come around in a nice gentle curve all the way around. So we’ll get a new downpipe. Um, then the silencer can be mounted on the inside of the that this bracket instead of on the outside, which makes it stick out too far. Should be on the inside, but the pipe won’t let it. So, if that bend was pulled out, it could probably uh probably fit better. It the bike’s pretty grubby. It’s uh it’s been stood for quite a while, but um it’s a the real deal. It’s a proper Reddic 500. Um it differs in quite a few ways to the Indian version in the fact is it’s got the pressure relief valve for the rocker feed. So, it can’t build up pressure in the rocker feed pipes. It diverts it back into the timing cover and then back to the tank. So, it gives the oil pump uh both oil pumps a bit of an easier life. But, it will clean up and polish up, but it is a work in progress. I’ve got I need to get it running nicely. It’s not running nicely at the moment. It does run. Um, but it the carburetor is um I need to get the pilot jet out and have a look at that and uh check. But it is a new carburetor on it. So, I just thought I’d show you this um as an interim sort of uh video really cuz I’m going to I’m going to be doing a ride out video on something else in a minute. So, you’ll probably get two videos today that tide you over for the weekend. Yeah. Instead of get having the uh triangular tool boxes like the earlier ones did, they’ve got this which is uh where the air cleaner is and the battery and uh everything else fits in there quite nicely. It’s got the uh four-speed gearbox with the neutral finder. Um I’ve only run this briefly. Uh it’s not an easy starter, which says pilot jet to me. Um it doesn’t seem to like a lot of choke and it doesn’t take it over evenly. So u I will sort all that very shortly. Yeah. So, I just wanted to show you it. Um, it’s got a few upgrades. I mean, it’s got uh H hallogen light in there, very blue, bluey white. And you got the dip switch there. I don’t know. As I like H hallogen lights myself, I might uh put a normal bulb in that because the alternator is only charging the battery and the magnet, it doesn’t need it to run. The magneto uh well, it would have done, but the magneto has been converted to it’s got a Thor spark triggering mechanism in it and a coil hidden somewhere, which will probably be in here somewhere. So, um, it needs a probably needs a a new coil put in in in the mag and then the mag can work. But it works okay as it is. It’s got the Lucas Alt horn. It’s a bit uh bit of a stalker. It’s had new rims. This bike, I’ve got all the paperwork uh with it as well, has had over five grand spent on it. So, I dread to think what it looked like before the money was spent on it, but it’s got um it will clean up the tree really nicely. Now, the paintwork’s a bit dull. It wants polishing up a bit. And it could all be done. It can all be done. Good looking bike. I got it off a nice gentleman in Wales. Um I’ll put a link to uh his YouTube channel. Um he’s got a classic 500. Sorry, he’s got a classic 350 and he does rides out and he shows Wales at its absolute best. bits of whales that you never normally see. And I subscribed to him and when I spoke to him about this bike, he said that, “Oh, I’m one of your subscribers as well.” So, he subscribed to me anyway. So, he can keep an eye on the bike now. But, uh, yes, I’m going to improve it. I’m going to change that downpipe. It’s not the right one. Well, it’s not bent the right way. It should should look nice look nicer than that. Um it Yeah, it’s just got a a bad bend in it. If you look down on it, you can see how the the pipe goes in and it doesn’t need to. Just needs to tuck in behind the footrest a little bit further out, which would pivot the the silencer in. And then you can put the mountain on the inside, which is where it’s supposed to be. But um it is what it is at the moment. But it wants a damn good polish up. And uh yeah, it’s an awful lot of money to spend on a bike. Five grand, isn’t it? Doing it up. You know, everything was done. Everything. The engine was completely rebuilt and it’s got a roller bearing crank in it. Now, the roll the the big end was uh converted over to one of Hitchcock’s um uh roller bearing conversions. So, that’s a huge modification. That’s good. A good modification that is. Um all the clutch is all new. I say the brake shoes are new, the wheel rims are new. There’s just reams of paperwork for it showing everything that’s been spent on it. I mean, it had three just over £35,000 worth of parts put on it. So, I think she was fairly tired back in the day. Whether the mileage is original, I don’t know. 44,997. You could be, don’t know. Um, it’s on an age related number, which is all right, but it is a 1957 bike. You see it’s got twin cables off the front brake to work both sides of the brake. Probably wants a little bit of adjustment there. I think there’s several things to do on this bike um to make it a lot nicer. But what has been done is very nice. I spoke to the guy that actually did all the work on it. Um, he’s a proper man, you know. I mean, his brief was whatever it wants, give it to it. Money, no object. So, he did. And, uh, he knows his stuff. So, yeah, there we are. I just thought I’d just show you that and you can uh and it’s quite a wide tank. that is. But um it’s got a scratch in the tank. I’m going to try and get some paint to match that. Uh it’s not very much, but it’s just a scratch. And apparently what it was is the decompressor lever was put underneath and when you turned your handlebars it caught the end of the lever caught the tank and just scratched it. Not the end of the world. So you’ve got the clutch, front uh decompressor, choke, front brake and throttle. That’s about it really. in the light switches here. Yeah, I’m quite looking forward to this is actually on the road. I’ve got it insured. It’s on the road ready to go. Um I just got to sort the carburetor out really and then I can ride it. But maybe I’ll do it this weekend, but it’s supposed to be wet this weekend. So maybe later on in the week when it dries up a bit, we’ll take a trip out on it. But it is it is very different from the uh the Indian bullets in in quite a few ways. Obviously the breather that’s a reddish uh breather on there with the three bolts holding it on which breathes. There’s no breathers from the um timing cover, although there is one in the neck of the filler. So, um we’ll keep an eye on that and see what everything’s doing. Um yes the Indian ones have got a boss there for the um um it was some emissions thing which had come in by then you see so that they got this boss on there I mean you’ll see it on the on the army uh 350 I’ve got and the other cast iron bullets I’ve got but the British one never had that. Army’s had new rockers, new valves, new springs, new rocker stansions. Um, everything everything has been done is everything is itemized what has been done and um, yes, very good. You know, I mean, I’m very pleased with it. Don’t get me wrong. I’m very pleased with it. I know the the the color doesn’t quite match the tank. The tank is slightly different color, but that doesn’t make any difference. I like the fact it’s got uh it’s got a speeding bullet in between the Royal and the Enfield. Probably not original, but it looks good. Yeah, I say the fork legs want polishing up. They want uh sanding down. Yeah, they’re very very oily. Everything’s been coated with something. Yeah, it has. So, it wants a good old clean up and it’s been obviously uh put away in storage. Um yeah, I’ll see if I can I’ll tell you what. I’ll see if I can get it going. I can’t do it with the camera. I’ll uh I’ll I’ll bring you back. Well, here we are. Um after lots of lunging on the kink kickstart, it doesn’t want to start. Um it’s fired a few times. It’s kicked back a pretty hard as well. So, I guess I’m going to have to check the timing. It seems a bit advanced to me. And I need to clean the carburetor out. Without the pilot jet in operation, it’s almost a dead loss. So, we’ll come back to this one. I say it’s a work in progress, this bike. There’s uh room for a lot of improvement on it. So, it’s a a little project which I shall sort out as I go. Right. Okay. I’m going to get on now and make the next video. I’ll see you later. Bye-bye.

Very nice bike and colour.
Interesting to hear about its history thanks.
How do you reset the trip on the speedo?
What sort of difference did the TT carburettor make to the early Constellations Mr Brown?
Hiiiiii
I like that style of seat with the white piping, a friend of mine had a crusader sports in the 1970's and that had the same seat, which I always liked.
It's a looker
Great stuff volcano they new how to build bike 👍 take care
Hey why don't you swipe bigbore kit 499 cc into reborn classic
What a beauty Mr Brown good to see the cats trying to help too ha ha
Another lovely bike VB. Weirdly my '04 cast iron 500 doesn't have that boss you mention on the cylinder head, so could be there's a few years in the Indian models where that stopped being on them? Or just an oddball feature of my bike!
An interesting addition to the collection Mr Brown .
The proper curved exhaust pipe will make the bike look much better . I'm thinking the tank is Indian made , would the original have had a chrome panel ?
Splendid Pig Sticker sidestand !
I put a Thorspark on my Connie , it cured the reluctant starting . But a real b*gger to get the timing set correctly .
I recently found Powysrider's channel , the Welsh border countryside is my favourite part of Wales . I've been known to drink a pint or two of cider and ale in those lovely old pubs in years gone by .
I shall watch with interest what you do with this bike .
PS. an early Meteor then a 500 Bullet , you're obviously spending your reservoir money wisely . What next ?
( all the best things come in threes you know 😅 ) .
So i am 1 year older than the bike it's in better nick than me but it looks a really nice bike be great to see you going on one of your trips on the 500 bullet again great video ❤
Great to see a new bike, look forward to progress and ride out. Thanks for sharing 👍
That's a nice looking bike, is it on 19 inch wheels? Im not sure I would agree that a roller big end is a worthwhile mod I knew many that did it in the late 70s early 80s and they all had a very short life especially the Alpha ones, The floating bush was introduced because of the roller big ends short life.
Looks very much like the 350 Clipper a mate had back in 1977. I don't think his had the double sided brake though.
Lovely looking machine Mr brown.
Lovely bike, with so much potential already built in. Really enjoyed watching your cats antics too. What a pair of characters 🙂
That’s nice looking bike, colour suits it well. Puss seems impressed too! Thanks VB.
Very good-looking bike. I think the poor view of RE machines that I had in my younger days was possibly formed by my next door neighbour's brother. He had two cafe racers, a Norton (500, I think) and a Royal Enfield which might have been a 350 or a 250. He was hopeless, to be honest. He could never start the Norton but sometimes got the RE running and it sounded like a bag of hammers. (I have a dim memory of the guy attacking the Norton's cams with a file). My dad told me it was not the bike's fault. My dad was amazing with engines, so I'll bet he was right.
