In this retrospective, I take a deep dive into Gamera vs. Guiron (1969), one of the strangest and most divisive entries in the Showa Gamera series, a film that was paradied and laughed at endlessly by Mystery Science Theater 3000. Directed by Noriaki Yuasa and written by Niisan Takahashi, this film leans hard into late-’60s pulp sci-fi, with brain-eating aliens, kids in space, and one of the wildest kaiju designs ever: Guiron, the knife-headed monster. But does any of that make up for the recycled plot, slow pacing, and hollow stakes? I compare it to Gamera vs. Viras, break down the monster fights, and dig into the film’s alien world of Terra to see where it shines and where it completely falls apart. This is part five of my full Gamera retrospective project, covering every film in the franchise from Showa to Heisei to Millennium. 🔔 Subscribe for more Gamera and kaiju retrospectives 💬 Let me know your thoughts on Guiron in the comments 📽️ Support the channel and get exclusive content by joining as a member #Gamera #Kaiju #GameraVsGuiron #Guiron #GameraRetrospective #ShowaGamera #KaijuMovies #MonsterMovies #Gamera1969 #DaieiStudios #Godzilla #MST3K #FirewoodMedia #Monsterverse #Tokusatsu #Kaiju MovieBUY OUR MERCH: https://firewood-media.creator-spring.com check out the Website: www.firewood.media Join this channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWt-qgIjac3_pm4YKj-ODYA/join Thank you for watching and consider checking out the other films and music videos on our channel! 1. Really love Guiron design as a monster especially his rebirth version were he was a badass in that show he fits right in as a Godzilla villain for sure especially with Gigan

  2. Guiron is such a badass monster. His introduction is simply incredible. We see a new version of Gyaos fly over and get completely cut to pieces within seconds of fighting Guiron. Gamera had to fight Gyaos 3 separate times to defeat him, while Guiron cuts up Gyaos in seconds. Immediately establishing him as a huge threat. Also, I love the comedy of this movie and all other 60's giant monster movies that were made almost exclusively for kids, yet has some of the goriest, bloodiest monster fights ever.

  3. I'm of the opinion that its MST3K episode is the best episode of the series. Watching it on YouTube back in the day is honestly what got me to finally seek out the films proper. From what I've heard that's actually pretty common among American Gamera fans.
