Nice to see manga involved in this list. But you're right about starting at chapter 1.

If this were in color, and the painting's background blotches were green, and those little circles were white, pink, and yellow, then I would see flowers. That's all I have to add and, my comment barely approaches adequacity.
Keep mentioning Deathnote and I’m going to be on cloud 10. Seriously though, yeah I have all of Pluto. Enjoyed it a lot. They have an anime on Netflix I think.

Never heard of it, but I’m not all too plugged in to manga…
Hell yea! Pluto is awesome, it's an extended "modern" retelling of one of the Astro Boy story arcs. There was recently a netflix anime adaptation, highly recommend it. Also El Eternauta, completely unrelated but it's an incredible comic book that also recently got a netflix adaptation, though live action.
This chapter sets up a really good part of the story, but on it's own I don't think it would be good as a standalone.
Also, Sandland, it's a one volume manga that I adore. Just throwing it out there. Hope you're doing well Haussmann!
So I’ve actually read Pluto and the other 3 major manga by the author, Naoki Urasawa and it’s BY FAR some of the best storytelling I’ve seen in any medium, and Pluto is my least favorite of the four series, I really recommend reading Pluto, it’s a quick read
If you wanna get into the author’s longer form work, Monster, 20th Century Boys and Billy Bat are all masterpieces that deserve deep dives
