Reminds me of the mecha controls in Gundam CCA and the in-lore explanation of why they were phased out in Gundam UC, just 3 years after its battlefield debut.
The TL;DR answer was tactile awareness and how such “unobtrusive” control schemes were pushed out-of-mind during hectic situations…

What car use the 3rd option??

I’m all for whichever is the easiest for the vast majority of people to use therefore removing an extra variable in driving hopefully reducing the number of vehicular accidents eventually of only marginally.

I need to turn on the AC, car drives forward. lmao

So they’re removing the only part that makes driving feel nice huh

Honestly, I’d prefer options that don’t take up half the space on my car’s console.
More storage, extra cup holders, or even a small fold-out table like the ones on airplanes would be amazing.
Car design feels stuck in the past, relying on old tech that’s only around because of tradition. And let’s be real—tradition is just peer pressure from ancient people.
I’m not criticizing, just imagining ‘the car of the future.’ I’d love to see a time where self-driving cars are so advanced that I wouldn’t even need a steering wheel. Imagine having that space for a desk where I could use my laptop on the way to work. In this future, we wouldn’t even need gear shifters.
