First pic – Mine
Second pic – Inspiration

The guy in the first pic is supposed to be much older, but he looks four when I draw him.

The art style I’m talking about is the way the second artist uses proportions, aka big forehead, big eyes, very ‘anime’

  1. Typically you can’t really do both, the larger the forehead gap, the more youthful they appear. It’s why babies in anime have such big foreheads. However if you work with the jaw so it’s more elongated and the cheeks are more drawn in with sharper lines and then size the eyes down by going for a more sharp-edge shape it can go a long way. But generally if you want a more adult looking character you’ll have to compromise on the big eyes and softer cheeks. If you look at characters like Kiritsugu or Okabe (yes I know he’s young age wise but his design elicits you to think he’s older than he is) you can see how their jaw line is more straighter and their eyes are smaller to other characters that are more younger in their respective worlds.

Btw happy birthday to the person you’re drawing this for 🎂
