This means that the MC never has a good reason to pick one over the others, since the author needs to keep up the suspense and treat all candidates as equally likely to win over the MC. Also the very idea of a harem setup means all the candidates have to be magically okay with the MC dating multiple people simultaneously, undermining the MC’s need to choose only one.
