増えすぎた人類を…ではなくて、宇宙から来た人類が人が住めない星をテラフォーミングする話だと思います
東亜重工で分かるように、シドニアの騎士と繋がりがあり、シドニアでは人類は定住できる星を求めて宇宙を彷徨っていました
映画本編でも地球化と言っています

二瓶先生はナウシカ原作お好きだし、絵の端々にもその影響見えるので影響大だし、もうこれはナウシカ原作を換骨奪胎したものだと。
プランAの本来は美しい心を持った人だけで地球化の済んだ星でって正に、先史文明の方々の意思。
でも、ナウシカは生き物・自然の力を信じてこの汚穢の中で生きそれでも血を吐き屍を積み上げながら自力で進化していつか生き物は清浄の地へ辿り着く、と自然に任せる方法を選んだ。
カイナ達もまた、地球化が済んだ星で争い資源を食い潰し、そしていつか播種船を作り旅立つのだと思います。
ご都合主義な展開は、まあ、運命の導きw時期が来た流れ、で私は目を瞑ることにしますw。
でも、扉の脇の数字は、もしかしたら、大昔にちゃんと入った人がいて、でもまだ時期が来てなくて、後に来る文字を読める人=自分と同じ使命を持った者の為にヒントを残してくれたのではないかと。
なにより映像が綺麗すぎて！！笑
