The guest of the first talk event of this exhibition, titled “Soil and Dreams,” is a researcher of soil. Mr. Kazunori Fujii is invited. In addition to being a researcher, Mr. Fujii is also a storyteller of soil, traveling around the world with a shovel in hand, unearthing magnificent stories hidden in the soil of various places. In his book, he begins by unraveling the mystery of the “soil” that was born on the earth 500 million years ago, nurtures the soil, the environment nurtured by the soil and the diverse life forms, and the properties of the soil that have been determined since ancient times. From the rise and fall of human civilization, the differences in cultural characteristics, to the nature of artistic expression, the fact that there is nothing unrelated to soil on this earth is depicted on a grand scale. In this talk event, together with Jiro Ito, the manager of Kumonodaira Sanso, we will talk about the soil around us, such as the Northern Alps and Japan’s soil, and the relationship between soil and human beings in the era of environmental crisis.
