📖 Follow along with the official Catechism in a Year Reading Plan (https://AscensionPress.com/CIY) We continue our examination of the four marks of the Church with today’s mark: catholic. the Church is universal in two senses. The first is that Christ is fully present in her, and so receives the fullness of the means of salvation. Second, it goes out to all peoples; everyone belongs. Today’s readings from the Catechism are paragraphs 830 -838. Please note: The Catechism of the Catholic Church contains adult themes that may not be suitable for children – parental discretion is advised. Ascension is committed to creating media that helps Catholics grow in their faith. Catechism in a Year promises to do just that — that’s why, no matter what, we’re making it. Awesome teaching
This podcast has been such a profound source of blessing for me on my faith journey, but even more so for my family as I teach my children the faith. It is amazing to witness that God is already stirring their young hearts to ask really deep questions about their Heavenly Father and our Catholic life, and just fantastic that I can now give them answers which I know confidently are in accordance with the Catechism. I thank God for His abundant mercy on me, a sinner, and pray that all on this CIY journey will persevere in seeking the heart of God.
Thank you once again, Fr. Mike, for your humility, insight and dedication.
God bless.
I really need this. In my conversion class we were taught nothing about the Church. I haven't been to Mass or Confession I'm 12 years because I have no way to get there.
God, by the intercession of the blessed Virgin Mary, may Your Church be one in Christ! Give the whole world a sincere heart of repentance and awareness of it's sin! In Jesus' name. Amen.
Thank you for teaching us the catechism.🙏🙏✨✨✨✨
Father Mike,

Day 117 – I LIKED 1. @ 11:53 ' Catholic Church receives from Jesus the fullness of the means of salvation, the full sacramental life.' RFLT – It is striking. Only in the Catholic Church we have 'fullness of the MEANS of salvation. This is so much true, when we understand the significance of the seven sacraments in our church. These sacraments which are instituted by Lord Jesus himself are lavishly offered in our church. A sacrament is where our Lord comes to intervene DIRECTLY in the life of a person for his salvation. This matter is significant. Here the MEANS is fully understood. The seven takes care of the sanctity of the person, assures him of the salvation. Yes, we are assured of our goal, that is nothing other than to reach heaven. Meditating over each of the sacrament, as the MEANS for my salvation, one will be astonished at its relevance. We Catholics, often born into it, the so called cradle Christians, often do not pay the required attention to them. Let us continue to meet our Lord in each of the Sacrament. Know that the sacrament, even though often celebrated in a communal manner, it is very much PERSONAL. TeachUsOhLord
Day 117 contd … 2. @ 12:45 ' It is not the correct profession of faith, but the complete confession of faith' RFLT – I loved the coining of words. Fr. Mike, thank you. 'correct profession' versus 'complete confession' . As we ponder over it, the gravity of the situation surfaces. The creed which taken years for its crystallisation is uttered in the churches so lavishly, that we often miss the significance of it. Personally, the statement on 'Communion of Saints' which is so dear to me, found in the Apostle's Creed is not explicitly mentioned in the Nicene Creed. I used to wonder, why it is missed out in the Nicene creed. You see, does it lack completeness in the formulation of the creed. Bur here we are, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit is able to be lead by the Magisterium to know these profound statements and CONFESS it comfortably. Help us Lord to live by our faith we CONFESS. CreedWeConfessOhLOrd
“Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father sent me, so I send you.””
John 20:21
Day 117 contd … 3. @ 17:50 ' Profession of faith, the Sacraments, Ecclesial government, Communion, are the four areas which defines the Catholic Church ' RFLT – The Four areas. Easily told. But how easy it would be if all the faithful Christians are able to be together under the Catholic fold by the mercy of our God. Only mercy can solve the problem. The diabolic activity , the satanic forces have wrecked our unity because of our own pitfalls. Ego reigns. When our Lord taught the lesson at the table of the Last Supper, it was a mandate for us to follow. To be the slave to wash other's feet, to qualify them too to participate in the heavenly banquet. But in general, the faithful wants to to be served than to serve. The indispensability of the one who serve is not completely comprehended by the hierarchy. The reliance on the intervention of the Holy Spirit in the Church matters has to be universally practiced. Humble intercession prayers for the fruitfulness of ecumenical activities have to be nurtured asymptotically. Christ remains divided before the innocent public. A grave situation. Only the plea for mercy can confront the problem. LeadUsOhLord
I had a priest friend who used to say, “There are only 2 kinds of people in this world, Catholics and “not-yet” Catholics” 😀
Day 117 takeaways: Catholic (with a little “c”) means universal. The Church is catholic because in her subsists Christ. She has received from Jesus the fullness of the means of Salvation. A particular Church subsists within a Diocese that worships the same way, professes the same beliefs under a Bishop ordained in Apostolic Succession. Other non-Catholic Churches have grace and truth and goodness and 66 of the 73 books of the Bible and some of the Sacraments. They have means of Salvation, but not the fullness of Faith. A truly Catholic Church means they have correct and complete professions of Faith, the entire Bible, seven Sacraments, ordained ministry, and Apostolic Succession and ruled through the Supreme Pontiff, the Pope. From the very beginning (130 A.D.) all Christians understood they were united to the Church in Rome. If I claim to be Catholic but reject any one of those things, I am living in this irregular relationship, a “cafeteria” Catholic. One who does not persevere in charity will not be saved. He remains in the bosom of Christ but not in the heart. The Church is catholic because she has been sent out by Jesus on a mission to the whole human race. Those who belong to the (catholic) Church are the Catholic Faithful; others who believe in Christ; all mankind called by God’s grace to Salvation. The Church knows she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian. They are in certain, albeit imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church. So why be Catholic? Because do you want an adequate means of salvation or the fullness of the means of Salvation.? It is not a good and glorious thing that the Church is divided. God wants us to be one. Everyone belongs to the catholic Church. There is not one person who should be excluded from God’s Grace. There are only 2 kinds of people in this world – Catholics and “not-yet” fully Catholics.
Thanks from a parishioner in Rensselaer County, NY – Diocese of Albany
Thrilled with this. Also the large writing. Thank u so much Fr Mike.
Father Mike thank you for your teaching, God Bless you
Praying for all of us. Especially those like my daughter who walked away from her faith. For her family to know the faith. For my husband to know the faith and for us all to preserve in love.
Thank you Father Mike 🙏🏼🥰
Hi Everyone! This hasn't come at a better time where there is conflict with the issue of raising the Pride flag at our Catholic schools. As Fr. Mike said (through the Catechism), there are Catholics who treat our faith like a buffet and have not made the effort to understand God's love and purpose for them in our community. Please offer up prayers for this situation of unrest. In JMJ.
Okay, it’s an imperfect relationship then.
I’m willing to accept that.
Greetings Father Mike,

Day 117..! Oh my, still catching up..! Not an easy task when you’re a week late. I will ‘catch up’ today, with Gods help..! And ask for your prayers, also. What caused the first schism…? Where did this ‘separation’ come from..? I cannot believe I’m asking these questions..! I should know this..! You are talking about what are sometimes called, ‘cafeteria Catholics’ who think they can ‘pick and choose’..! 🤔🤔🤔 Thank you Fr. Mike for directing us..! I CANNOT WAIT to hear you again. I am praying for all of you. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Please pray for me. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻God bless. ❤❤❤
Fantastic teaching here.
When I first became curious of Catholics, to becoming Catholic, it was for selfish reasons. A bit ashamed to that. But, from the time I stepped into the Cathedral and saw my first mass, breaking down in tears, the selfishness went away, replaced by the touch of God helping me to clean my life up, to return home. It never fails to make me tear up what Christ did for us all. ALL of us, regardless of how broken we are, how selfish and prideful, how judgmental and downright stupid. He wants us ALL to return home. Pray for me, as I pray for you, and all priests, here now, or in purgatory.
Thank you Father Mike.
