  1. Remember that spare key from the dead master that Gil casually threw away in the Whispers of Dawn special? Ishtar picked it up and used it to shut off Gate of Babylon.

Literally another careless mistake of Gil leading to another L, lol.

  2. All that we know from Ayaka’s flashback is that she met Kirei and Gilgamesh in the church at some point between the events of the fourth HGW (a version of Fate / Zero) and the fifth HGW (a version of FSN similar to, but not the same as, HF).

And when servants die / return to the throne they lose the memories of their summoning. The Gil in Ayaka’s flashback and Gil here are basically two different people.

  3. 10:55 IIRC caster said the arm had a gimmick, IIRC it activates when the user dies (heroically I guess) and brings them back with extra power (not shown here but in the light novel john was throwing hands against alcides and actually punching him down)

  4. To answer your question about Fate Strange Fake following Zero and UBW the answer is kinda, I always recommend people to go into every Fate anime and treat it as its own property instead of trying attach labels like prequels/sequels (of course in FSF case since it was originally a fanfic the more you know about fate and have seen the other shows the more you will enjoy/understand it since it references soooooo many things from other properties). Strange Fake technically COULD be viewed as a sequel to UBW and Zero but as you have noticed not everything truly is the same and thats cause every Fate is technically its own parallel universe. In this Case FSF clearly has some of its past events be similar to Zero and UBW but they didn't go down the exact same way. If you learn to treat Fate like Marvel/DC comics where you have multiple versions of the same characters, alternate realities, pocket dimensions, multiversus, etc. the lore for each show kind of starts making more sense cause you are not trying to tie everything together into one bubble. Its kind of like how DC has for example multiple versions of Batman, they all share similar backstories but with slight alterations that lead to a completely different version of batman because of it. I know not everyone watches or treats fate like this but for me personally it helped me a lot get the gists of things once I treated it with that mentality.

  5. The only thing is that it kind of feels like Gilgamesh should have died standing up, like in the novel. Alcides should have been juggled more by both Jack and Gilgamesh.

  6. When servants are summoned, they are basically copied from the data stored at the throne of heroes. In other words, this Gil and fate/stay night's Gil are technically distinct individuals who wouldn't share memories of the holy grail war. As Flat mentions to Jack the ripper, if Jack was summoned again it would be a different Jack,

  7. So, Strange Fake happens after Fate/Zero but follows a different timeline after the events there( Fate Stay Night), following this the flashbacks make sense….In Fate Zero, Gilgamesh comes back to life after getting covered with the mud( that's why he is in the flashback). There are two versions of him in this timeline, the one who is alive and the Heroic Spirit. It looks like some time after the FOURTH HOLY GRAIL WAR(F/Z), Kotomine Kirei( the Priest) and Gilgamesh met the Little Red Riding Hood and cooked up something with the Einzberns….I think Ayaka is a Homunculus modeled after the original Ayaka( with black hair), and what is inside her is the LRRH. Just as Ishtar is a Homunculus from the Einzbern Family😁

  8. A lot of content was honestly cut from the anime. They should have trimmed what they planned for this episode and instead extended everything leading up to the end of Episode 12, which should have ended the season with Pale Rider abducting everyone. Because of that decision, a lot of the best fights feel rushed.

    Some of what they cut:

John had increased endurance from Caster’s Noble Phantasm, making him comparable to a general from Alcides’ time (specifically Spartan generals). That’s why he was able to ragdoll Alcides for a bit, especially since Flat was already disrupting Alcides’ magical energy flow.

Alcides also actually dies after getting stabbed, but he revives using King’s Order, which lets him access abilities from the Twelve Labors. One of those is a one-time resurrection tied to Chiron, his teacher. After reviving, he immediately pivots to trying to kill Gilgamesh with poisoned magical energy. ( none of this was explained so if u didn't read the LN ur like whats happening here)

The Richard vs Gilgamesh fight was also way too short. In the LN, Richard keeps getting faster throughout the fight to the point that his Excalibur blasts are almost instantaneous. Gil then counters by attacking Ayaka to force Richard to defend, which eventually ends with Richard tanking a hit and getting ragdolled.

Then Gil gets jumped by Alcides, and they actually fight for a while. Alcides shoots down alot of gils Noble Phantasms instantly, and just as Gil is about to defend against Nine Lives, Ishtar closes his Gates using the key he left lying around. Gil then gets jumped and thats basically what we saw in the anime .

Also In the LN he dies standing up like the GOAT, which perfectly reflects his pride. The anime making him fall for a more “tragic” death honestly ruins that moment since that was his white beard moment.

The biggest issue isn’t the smaller lore cuts it’s how much they shortened the two Gil fights. Those are some of the best Gilgamesh fights in the series. As a fan, the best part of an anime adaptation is seeing those fights on screen. The episode before this set everything up perfectly, but this episode dropping so much makes the season go from about a 9 to a 7.5 for me. Shorter jack vs Alcides okay i get it still disappointing since thats jacks major fight shorter gil fights too thats too much for me.

  9. Time to list all the things Gil went through before being taken down:
    1. 1v1 with Richard and beating him pretty handedly while getting spammed by Excalibers (all of which should be around or even stronger than the one Richard did to Enkidu due to the higher quality base he is using).
    2. Getting jumped by Alcides, who is amped by From Hell, who activated his ultimate attack Nine Lives
    3. He can't use EA (and probably wouldn't anyways) or it might get stolen by Reincarnation Pandora
    4. He loses access to his entire kit of Gate of Bablyon, his main way of fighting and all of his weapons, due to the presence of someone who, based on any regular understanding of anything in the world, should not be here (Ishtar) because of a weakness that only she could exploit. (this is the big one)
    5. He got shot by four arrows filled with Hydra Venom, which is the same kind of stuff that John's knife had in it and has Alcides crashing out and running, and practically shrugged it off without showing it on his face (this is stuff that, in lore, is so painful that it made someone literally give up his immortality I believe so he could die rather than suffer from it anymore), to the point that Ishtar thought he wasn't feeling the pain yet.
    6. He takes a full brunt attack from Berserker, which we see literally decimated entire city blocks and seemed even more concentrated where Gil was based on the magnification thing.

Yeah, it takes a bunch of things, a couple of which should be technically impossible (3 and 4; 3 requires Alcides to be present, but he literally can't be summoned in any kind of standard or even kind of standard grail war due to being an Avenger, and 4 requires Ishtar to be present, which should be literally impossible due to a variety of factors, but especially that the grail war simply can't summon divine spirits period) to take out a Gil that is even kind of locked in

  10. No, it's not a different reality. If u are to summon the same servant over and over again, his memories will reset every time. Alot of ppl forget this aspect. This is why Jack didn't answer Flat when he asked him that.

The servants are doomed to repeat this over and over, as this holy grail war is just a ritual so that the final mage who wins gets his wish fulfilled by the grail which contains all the power gathered from all 7 dead servants. Mages do this because only with that amount of power can they reach the root which contains infinite knowledge. There will never be mages self sacrificing their chance at reaching the root for someone else's benefit. That's why in fate alot of ppl are like "u are not a proper mage".

Think of the throne of heroes as an archive and servants just downloadable files. Once the servant dies in a war, the file is deleted completely.

The only 2 heroes who are exception to this to my knowledge are Artoria and Emiya.

  11. 16:48

  12. Man this episode low key really expects the audience to have a college degree when it comes to History cause I doubt a lot of people know about the Epic of Gilgamesh or the history of Alexander Dumas
