  1. This episode had me overfed. Ark escape, tired Legato, domestic Midvalley, and RAZLO

Also, I love that almost directly after Knives tries telling Vash that humanity is hopeless, we cut to some of his ex-employees. Midvalley is a music teacher now, and Leonoff is playing with kids. All it took for them to completely turn around was 5 MONTHS of separation from Knives. The show itself is telling the viewer that Knives is dead wrong, and I think that's awesome.

Episode 8 is probably going to be my most rewatched episode aside from Once Upon a Time in Hopeland.

  2. I'm not even comparing it to the TriMax, but this season has been disappointing compared to Stampede… It feels… off. I can’t quite make sense of the pacing. They’re trying to cover about 14 volumes of TriMax in 12 episodes, yet so much of the screen time is spent on wandering around with exposition from Meryl and Milly. We're still at the Home Ship! Where's the rest of No Man's Land?! Stampede had so much more world building.

Meanwhile, Vash and Knives feel sidelined. What I loved about Stampede was the dynamic contrast between Vash and Knives. Their opposing philosophies drove the entire story. We sort of see that tension in this episode when the brothers argue—and even that feels uneven, since Vash is literally being held hostage and tortured during the exchange. So far, no key or side characters have died, except Hoppered.

I love Stampede Knives! He practically stole every scene he appeared in. It was refreshing to see such a charismatic, carefully written antagonist. Here, he just doesn’t have the same presence and comes across more like a generic, detached villain. 🫤
