In 2024 summer the live-action explosion shoot of “New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT” has been conducted Please enjoy the behind-the-scenes of the explosion filming set! The day before the explosion shoot So today is the day before the explosion shoot Yeah, the live-action explosion shoot starts tomorrow and yesterday we built these platforms today we will connect and complete this platform setup, which will be used as the background When we film the explosion, there is the subject which we will explode(circled in yellow) and the background (circled in pink) and the background itself is printed on a huge tarp and we want to build a wall-like platform to hang this tarp First of all, it’s pretty much of a surprise that you, producer of TRIGGER and the staff of the studio is building this from scratch In the first place, filming a live-action explosion sequence
while making an anime is very rare and we’ve done it 14 years ago and… it’s very tough and challenging.
Big respect to every live-action filming crew staff. The TRIGGER staff building the background set by DIY. So hot…and so many tools I have never seen before So many tools that you will never see under an anime production A ruler that I have never seen Mechanic tools that I’ve never crossed paths with… aaand the background set is complete! All right, today’s work is done. The main shoot will start tomorrow, now we just have to hope for the best The next day, explosion filming starts Starting today, we’ll be filming the live-action explosions over the next few days. -All right, let’s give a tour of the explosion set
-Ok, let me show you around So first of all, we are in a mountain located somewhere in the kanto area the set looks like this and the tent over here is the filming department, where the camera crew works We have more than 5 cameras this time, and the staff and the camera crew is able to check the movie data with the monitors in the tent So we are able to test a lot of camera angles and that’s the main stage, where we’ll actually blow up the dolls right now, the explosive team is doing their magic, preparing the explosion This is the same place I remember from the documentary of the prequel -Same place and mostly the same staff from 14 years ago

-Very cool and so I am happy to be able to introduce where we shoot our live-action explosions, right in the middle of a mountain, surrounded by singing cicadas and we have to be careful of the insects from the ground, especially leeches Are you excited? Yeah, seeing the set instantly lifts my excitement How does it feel to be at the explosion set again after 14 years? 14 years ago was more chaotic, because it was our first time This time it feels tidy because we know what we’re doing and also, this time we printed the background art onto a huge tarp Last time we glued pieces of paper together, so this time the quality is better Just looking at it now, the graphic is beautiful so I’m pretty excited I think you’ll be surprised, because once the explosion starts, it all ends in an instance -I think boys will see this sight and will get thrilled, no explanations needed
-Yeah, seeing something exploding is just fun So this is like an evolution of our childhood days when we were playing with firecrackers The Mechanical Operation and Special Effects team will adjust the explosive powders and wires, and prepare the explosion At the same time, the sculpting artist will refine the colors of the doll The setup is complete. Imaishi signals the crew activates the explosion with an ignition device! -Whoooa so good! -Love the way the head collapses backwards! -Some of the debris came through that opening and flew right next to my face
-that opening of the tent? -I was watching the explosion while filming and some flew right to my phone On to the next ghost To film from a lot of angles, we will use iPhones as cameras also! Whoa… Whoa, the remains are so cool! Last time we didn’t have ghosts shaped like buildings,
so it looks really cool when you think of it as a building wreckage Especially the holes, looks like an anime scene A camera crew also filming the behind the scenes of this set for the Blu-ray BOX Bonus Footage -Mr. Koyama right after an interview

Next ghost we’re going to blow up This is how the back side looks like The top priority is that the doll blows up, get shattered to pieces Since I’ve made it to be destroyed, we don’t think that it’s a waste, I want it to blow up and break as intended I want it to explode completely, leaving nothing behind -WHOOOOOOOAA

– I like how it rolls so glad it blew up cool If it looks cool and remains on film, and if the viewers tells me it was awesome, that would make me very happy. This ghost will shoot out black balls when exploding Ejection test Seeing the test, the cameraman adjusted a camera to shoot from above. I thought it would be fun to have an overhead shot because balls will be launched and we only shot horizontal angles Right before the blast, slits and incisions are made by knives, so the doll will burst more into shattered pieces A smile appears from the director A debri hit and sent an iPhone camera flying It has a nice sense of reality Onward we go! -All right, great job everyone!
