NYAIGHT OF THE LIVING CAT: Jason Douglas, Lew Temple & Maria Delilah | THS

We have to start first with the fact that we’re at a cat cafe. Is anyone taking a cat home today? Uh I wish I could. I would take all the little kittens with me if I could, but I I Yeah, I’ll be getting on an airplane. I have a cat at home, though. And so I’m not sure how he would do, but these cats are so social that actually I’m I’m It’s making a case for me that maybe cats need each other. They need that community. Yeah, maybe it would be a uh this is such a kind and and uh uplifting place. Maybe it’d be a disservice to take a cat from here. But if anyone is interested in adopting, they are up for adoption. So, you can always come down to this cat cafe and play with them. And we’ll plug it for sure. As a cat owner, did you learn cuz we have little cat um info at the end of each episode. Did you learn anything? Sure. I first of all uh you know uh patting them on the butt kind of above the tail. That’s okay. That’s okay. Under the belly, not so much. Uh touch the butt too much. Sure. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. Just a little. Also also cats are not dogs. Uh so they they have their own uh they are not you know you can be aggressively affectionate with a dog and they’re all into it. Cats are like no no that’s I’ve had enough of you. So respect their own personal space. Yes. Yeah. They’re really into No one picks you up walks over and just picks you. That’s a good point. And I was saying to somebody to our one of our interviewers like I’m okay with being picked up. Like go for it. It’s fine. I love that. Good, you know. Excuse me. No worries. My guess. Yeah. So, we have some people on here that are are familiar with zombies uh doing zombie uh programs. What I love about this though is that the cats, no one is hurting cats in this. Um and I think that’s a really fun thing where everyone still loves cats in this world. Um, anyone who wants to end on this, uh, how did it, what did you feel when you first like read what this was going to be because it’s so unique. I thought it was such a great, you know, we’re have we we we’re in like the 10th or 12th year of a kind of a zombie apocalypse renaissance in in media, uh, television, film, everything from The Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Renfield, all these, uh, titles. And and it’s not it’s not going away anytime soon. And so I I just think it’s great that this show kind of not only serves that, but kind of turns it around and and it’s from a different perspective. Obviously, these are not grotesque creatures that are trying to eat your flesh, but they’re actually they’re actually kind of but there’s something mesmerizing about them that you you you want to watch them, you want to touch them, you want to play with them. Uh so it’s actually, I think, a worthy entry to the whole genre. It’s not just a silly spoof, but it is its own thing. And I think it’s uh I think it I think it brings its own kind of philosophy and context and thoughtfulness around what it means to be on the run and something something’s gone wrong in nature and now we as humans have to figure it out. It’s a whole brave new world. And then also like just seeing um their dynamic, the characters dynamics, learning how to live in this new environment and not being able to be or touch or um get close to the thing that they love the most cuz it means so much to them. Constantly being tempted. Yeah. They’re tempted. They’re going through all these trials. Speaking of cats, I there’s cats everywhere. We got Oh, yeah. This is um my cat, Loretta, as a samurai. I got this from Japan. Okay. Yes. Samurai. Yes. Um I uh my thing watching the show is I was like I would just become a cat. That’s what I like. Yeah. Like Okay. Okay. Okay. I’m curious. What gives you the will to stay human? Yeah. Well, can you can you enjoy cats and be a cat at the same time? None of the cats in our show, they seem like they’re having a good time. Yeah, they’re fine. Naturally adjusted. I do think even the ones that change seem to assimulate pretty it seems like they desperately don’t want to be cats most of these but when they but when but when they realize they’re about to be they they seem to resign themselves to that it’s like it’s it’s okay just go just take it they just like there is something about you’re not really fighting it’s it’s going to overcome you and I think in a world that is gone crazy you have to cope with the reality roll with the When I finished uh the season, I was like, “What? I need more now. I need to know what’s going to happen.” Do you each of you have uh like hopes for your characters? What you’d like to see? Uh I hope he You know what? I hope he comes back. I feel like you will. Yes. You’re the star. You’re wear the goggles. Yeah. You’re going to wear those. Show that belly. Yeah. Cure. There’s going to be a cure. We’ll get people back. Maybe the old cure the old that old truck. We’re gonna learn more about Hunig. And I think Caru is going to continue to become more badass cuz she’s like she’s gone through a lot of poor things. Like this has been nuts. Like I actually think that as well. I think Luna is the key. I think way down the road we figure out maybe the cause of the whole thing or the answer. That’s he might be the He might be the solution to the problem and he might be both. And I think the boss cat. And of course, that’s all speculation, but we do seem to see some very feline cat-like reflexes with Kuni and knowledge. He’s got knowledge of cat facts that he doesn’t even know. All he knows is that he loves these cats. And then you such a sweetie up in there having your French toes. You love your cat cafe. And I’m just in there being judgy. I remember I was judgy in there looking at him while he was laying on the ground with those casts. I was like, it’s is a world you want to live in. Even though it’s scary. Uh is it though? It feels fun. It feels like a giant escape room. Like we’re all just kind of like trying to figure out the code to getting through this. That’s an idea. Where’s that room? Yeah. It could be here, right? An escape room set in a cat. October for Halloween. Let’s do it. I do want to ask all of you because you know you’re doing the English show. So, um, and I did watch some of them in Japanese, too, just to get a little difference. And you are making these characters your own. What’s as actors, what’s important to you when you’re when you’re when you’re doing that? I feel like I want to uh I feel like I want to be true to the character itself. The character isn’t necessarily the Japanese voice actor, but obviously they do originate that that, and I think there’s a contribution that they make uh that’s undeniable. Uh so we’ll often hear, not always, but we’ll often hear uh the Japanese performance and sometimes that’s a technical guide to kind of where the you know where the contours of the of the emotion might be for that scene. Um, but but yeah, for the most part, I think we have the we we certainly have the freedom to kind of be actors and just do what we do and and try to create the role uh that makes the most sense as storytellers because we’re not really trying to uh emulate or or mimic our Japanese counterparts. We’re trying to at least somewhat keep a little bit of the tone, the vocal tone. At least for me, just a little because I do sound like her. And that’s why this kind of worked out for me. I was like the perfect vocal match. Um but just seeing it, you get to see the, you know, the the eyebrows, you know, what the emotions going to be, the the mouth, um facial reactions, too. You kind of figure out how the emotions are going to be. And I think that helps you a lot to the whole thing. It’s nice getting to see the picture while you’re doing the whole thing. Finally, before we were rolling, we really geeked out over a Buffy. And so, like, we have cat zombies. I’m like, where’s cat vampires? What else do we want to see? What What other cat uh things in What kind of spin-offs can we get? I think a cat uh police procedural. Oh, buddy. A buddy cop shows cats. Let’s go check out the mouse infestation on 32nd floor. Yeah. Wow. All right, Cruncher Roll. You’ve heard the pitches. Uh, when we’re ready. Thank you all for talking to me today. I really enjoyed the show a lot. Thanks.
