What if a TCG anime or trading card game anime took the Fate Stay Night idea? Interesting. If you’ve screamed over Fate Stay Night’s Holy Grail War or cried for Shirou’s ideals, Card Fight Vanguard Divines is about to hijack your watch list. This 2024 card game anime isn’t just Yu-Gi-Oh with monsters, spells, or trap cards, or even god cards. It’s a shownen epic with fate, feels, and fights that hit harder than Saber’s Noble Fantasm from the studio that made Maiden Abyss and a director who worked on Koimo and the episode director for the romance drama anime Orange. Let’s unpack why Divines is a must-watch masterpiece. Cardfight Vanguard Divines is a new entry for the Card Fight Vanguard franchise or series, but I don’t know how many series that they have adapted or animated whatsoever. Card Fight Vanguard anime started ever since 2011 with its original series, but this time with many reboots and a reboot that we’re not going to talk about. Technically, this is the second reboot of the franchise. We call it the D series. This dropped in 2024 on January 2024 to April 2024. And with its season 2 that aired on the summer of 2024, and it delivers a complete heartpounding story. Think of Fate Stay Night’s life or death tournament vibes, but with magical hards and sibling drama that will hit you harder than Rentosa Sass. Whether you’re a fate stand or are new to anime, I’m here to convince you to join the Faded Clash. With 26 episodes of epic battles, characters you’ll stand, and a finale that wraps up like a shownen dream. This is for Fate fans and anime newbies alike. Shuffle up and let’s convince you to join the Faded Clash. Now, let’s dive into the plot because Divines season 1 and two grabs you like a critical trigger. Season 1 aired on January 13 to April 20, 2024. It kicks off with the Faded Clash. Six magical cards. The six desires choose six fighters. And the last one standing gets any wish granted courtesy of a shady plushy Gwellas. It’s Fate Stay Night’s Holy Grail War, but with cards like Razile and Varga Dragrass that can rewrite fate. Akina Miodo or Miodo Akina, our high school main character, is a vanguard newbie fighting to cure his frail sister Hikari. He is Shiro Emia with a deck facing pros where losing could mean everything. And I mean that literally. That escalated quickly. So, let’s jump right into the charm of Divines. Why does Divines slap so hard? It’s not just the cards, though. They are gorgeous. They’re very beautiful arts of the cards. The charm is how seasons one and two turn a card game into a shownen epic that rivals Fate State Night or even other animations out there, especially on the new standard of animation right now is on par with this anime. Allow me to show you Are you feeling Season 1’s fights are hopeful and flashy, while season 2’s turn grim with a future timeline that is fate zero level dark. The storytelling is the real MVP. divines makes you care about the cards and the characters because you are invested in these characters, these players, these card fighters, like how fate ties Sabers fights to Shirou’s ideals. Season 1’s Faded Clash is about dreams and desperations. Season 2’s Destiny Showdown dives into regret and redemption. The animation by Kimma Citrus, who worked on Maiden Abyss and the Rising of the Shield Hero. Gift Animation, who previously worked on the previous series of Cart 5 Vanguard, which is Overdress and Wildress, and Studio Jimmy, new but nailing card choreography. Top tier animation studios. Let’s also not forget the character designers for this series, Studio Clamp, who also did the character designs for Codeas. They are also the one that drafted these characters of Cardfight Vanguard Divines. The music kifa by VWP or virtual witch phenomenon in season 1 is a banger. And season 2’s panorama by my go hits the feels like a shownen ballad. If you’re into epic battles and rich stories, Divines is your vibe. The heart of Divines, well, the characters. Akinami is our rookie hero fighting for his sister Hikari. He is Shiro Ema with a deck pure heart wielding Razile, the faded one of miracles for hopefilled comebacks. Just like as he always quotes, You’ll scream when he activates his divine skill. Now, Inab or Inab now is his fiery senpai like Reintosaka with a vanguard deck. Her Varga Drag Ras restands for multiple attacks and her pro- Fighter ambition is shownen gold. Their banter is faith level chemistry. Think of Shiro and Ren but with card puns. Suo Yobitsugi or Yobsugi Suo the mysterious classmate gives off major archer vibes. Cool, cryptic, and probably hiding a tragic backstory. And then we got a very crucial character, Hikari, which I won’t be getting into spoilers, but be sure to pay attention to her, Akina’s little sister. We have a bunch of other characters out here like Mikoto the everchanging idol and we have Kiyokura Tao or Tao Kiyokura who is the CEO of his company and who is also the guiding star of the cast and then we have Baldi Nasori. Yes. And some bit of spoiler here if you don’t want to get into it here’s the time stamp or click on the chapter of the parts of the video. So yeah, 3 2 1 and don’t sleep on Hikari, Akina’s sister whose future self as the mysterious fox mask character in season 1 and season 2 is the plot twist that will make your jaw drop. These characters aren’t just fighting for a wish. They’re fighting with their own desires and fears. Akina’s guilt over Hikari’s illness now struggle to prove herself. Sua’s mysteriousness. It’s all layered like a perfectly baked anime cake. The faded clash forces them to confront their flaws. Just like Fate’s holy grail war tests Shiro’s ideals. By the time you finish these two seasons of this anime, you are going to get invested into these characters in which you will get into the sequel Divines Deluxe Arc which is still currently airing at the time of this recording. The Deluxe Finals, but Deluxe Arc is finished, but Deluxe Finals isn’t. Season two adds Destin one card fighters like Jini Mukai who is also a previous character from the previous season of Card Fight Vanguard Wildress. Kuan Naawa whose motives deepen the drama. These characters face guilt, ambition, and sacrifice making every battle personal. By season 2’s end, their arcs wrap like fate’s fate route complete and emotional. Director Taku Yamada ties it together. He’s known for review starlight with its dramatic stage battles. Orange blending heartfelt drama and Koimo balancing emotion and humor. His knack for emotional stakes make Divine’s card fights feel like life or death. Like Shiro versus Archer. If you love Fate’s character drama, you’ll stand this cast. So why should you, the general anime watcher, drop everything and binge Divines? If you’re a Fate Stay Night fan, this show is your soulmate. The Faded Clash is basically a card game. Holy Grail War. High stakes, morally great choices, and the cast that’ll break your heart. The lore is deep enough to rival fates, but accessible enough that you don’t need a PhD in Vanguard to follow along. New to anime? No problem. Divines is a perfect entry point. Season 1’s 13 episodes are tight. The battles are easy to grasp and the story hooks you from episode one. The animation by Kima Citrus pops off. The voice acting, oh my god, is top tier. And the themes of family, sacrifice, and defying fate hit universal notes. Plus, it’s got that shownen energy where every episode ends with you screaming, “One more.” The fans of this series are calling it the best Vanguard yet, and I wholeheartedly agree. Even I myself am very impressed with Cart Fight Vanguard. As a fan myself of the series ever since 2012, I cannot believe that I’m seeing a masterpiece. Peak storytelling. Whether you’re a Fate veteran or just an casual anime watcher, Divines delivers action, heart, and a story that sticks with you. Everything from season 1 up to season 2 made sense. Takuyamada, the director, is the secret sauce. The sauce. This crew makes seasons one and two a visual and emotional banger. Look, Cardi Vanguard Divines isn’t just an anime. It’s a vibe. It’s got the heartpounding battles of Fate Day Night, the character depth of a shownen masterpiece, and enough card game swagger to make you want to build a deck IRL just like what I did. I don’t know if I regretted it or not, but yes. From Achina’s fight for his sister to now’s fiery ambition, this show makes you feel every play, every loss, every win. The deluxe arc and finals arc in 2025 are only raising the stakes. So now’s the perfect time to jump in. Stream it on Crunch or you can just watch it for free on YouTube on the official YouTube channel of Card Fight Vanguard. Now I’m going to enter the spoiler territory by a bit and that is the future Hickory. Future Hickory is the core of this entire anime. This entire two seasons of Card Fight Vanguard Divines, Hikari is the core center of this anime. She is the secret main character of this anime. Without her, this anime wouldn’t be as good as it is now. And because of the ending, everything that they went through, it was all worth it. This anime is truly peak. This anime’s storytelling, character writing, everything about it, the animation, the characters itself, it’s a masterpiece. Thanks so much for watching everyone. If Divine Steals Your Heart like it did mine, share this video with your anime fans, anime watchers over there. Please spread the word that this anime is more than just a card game. It’s a well-written story that is heavily slept on. And if it did hook you, please spread the word. Enjoy the anime itself. You don’t have to be a fan of the series. Just enjoy yourself because this is a masterpiece storytelling.
