After working for the Japan Meteorological Association, he became the first free weather caster in 1992. In the same year, he established a private weather company called Weathermap Co., Ltd. He gained popularity for his friendly characters and unique weather commentary, and he also appears on TV and radio, as well as giving lectures nationwide. He became a director of the Japan Ecosystem Association, a public interest incorporated foundation, and from 2010 he has been active as a member of the Global Civic Cheering Group, a public relations organization related to biodiversity, formed by the Ministry of the Environment. He is also well-known for his analyses of environmental issues and extreme weather.
