**First-Timer**
**On today’s episode of Gundam:** So many Haros! There’s a whole Haro family aboard the ship! I love it when we get a bunch of Haros in one place like this. Let’s see if we can get even more Haros!
– Wait, what!?! There’s two Lockons!?! Are they twins!?! [](#maxshock)
– I want to point out that the graveyard is filled with Celtic Crosses. That would imply this is most likely someplace on the British Isles. [](#csikon)
– 4 months and 60 interventions? Celestial Being has sure been busy. [](#spinning)
– That is quite the wrinkle. Celestial Being won’t intervene against oppression of marginalized groups, but they will intervene if it breaks out into armed conflict. And as we already saw with Taribia, they will gladly attack the smaller group if the smaller group starts shooting first.
– Oh my god, there’s so many Haros! [](#squee)
– That’s clever. If the Gundams interfere with communications devices, putting out a wide net of communication devices can tell you where the Gundams are by where you get blackouts. Very smart strategy. [](#glasses-push)
– Since Saji only reacted to “lover” and not “boyfriend,” has he already accepted that he and Louise are a couple even if they haven’t gotten frisky yet? [](#thinkingtoohard)
– Oh shit! The UN ambassador is Alejandro, the shady guy who is always talking to Mei and Ribbons! [](#bigshock)
– Setsuna and Tieria eating in total silence and making zero small talk is fitting. [](#kotohoops)
– Feldt’s parents were in Celestial Being!?! And they were Gundam pilots!?! So the Gundam program must have been around for quite a while! [](#suddenshock)
– At least Lockon was a codename and not his real name. It was a supremely silly name, even by Gundam standards.
– I was right about Lockon. He’s from Ireland, which fits with the graveyard we saw. Most likely this means his family was killed in a terrorist attack that was part of the Troubles.
– [It’s the moment of all the multicolored Haros flying!](https://imgur.com/AOkwvhg) I was wondering where that came from! [](#binoculars)
– I love when both sides of a fight are being clever and doing their best to outfox each other. It’s so fun to watch. [](#concealedexcitement)
– Image enhancement is so fun in fiction. It always works so much better than it does in reality.
– It’s a cool twist to have the Dynames unable to use its leg because of the repair work. It’s basically forced to be stationary.
– Sergei has quite the reputation it seems. He’s a well-known commander.
– Fourth Solar War? I love when stuff like this is casually dropped as world-building. Of course there would have been wars during the transition to solar, probably over control of the massive solar energy plants.
– Christina’s freaking out. Not the reaction I expected from a member of Celestial Being, which is supposed to be involved with fighting like this. [](#sakurathink)
– I like seeing that the debris from the destroyed ships are actually an issue in the battle. That space debris is a massive pain to deal with in the real world, too.
– “I swore never to make another mistake.” So Sumeragi screwed up majorly in the past. Does she have a military background? That would explain why she seems so at-home with strategizing. [](#harukathink)
– [It’s a trap!](https://youtu.be/4F4qzPbcFiA?si=iZ-b6O9QYlOohGdW) It was all a trap by Sergei to isolate and capture a Gundam!
– [Hell yeah!](#SPORTS) We’re getting more Newtype resonance! It’s time for a rematch between Allelujah and Soma!
This is an exciting battle setup. I love the use of strategy in this battle, with Sumeragi and Sergei engaged in a battle of wits to try and outmaneuver the other. As of right now, Sergei seems to have the upper hand because he’s got the Kyrios out by itself and potentially vulnerable. I like the unique setting for the battle amongst the solar panels. It makes for a cool backdrop to the action. I hope it gets brought up and used more in the next episode as the battle really gets going.
I’m really excited for the rematch between Allelujah and Soma. In all likelihood, the Newtype resonance will cause both of them to have flashbacks to the past. I do wonder if Allelujah and Soma actually knew each other in the past or if their connection is that they both just happened to be genetically engineered children. Either way, I’m sure we’ll get some more information about their backstories in the next episode.
We’ve got confirmation that Celestial Being has been around for a very long time. Aeolia probably started the organization in his own lifetime and it has continued since then. Feldt said that her parents were in Celestial Being and they were pilots of 2nd-generation Gundams. This means there have been Gundams before the current ones, which are at least the 3rd-generation. Celestial Being must have been building up their strength for all this time, perfecting the Gundams and building a network of spies around the world. They also probably set up a logistics system for manufacturing and supplying everything Celestial Being would need for their mission.
Alejandro working for the UN is a nice reveal. It shows just how far Celestial Being’s influence goes if they have a UN ambassador working with them. He’s probably going to Azadistan for reasons related to Celestial Being. Perhaps Celestial Being has plans to intervene in Azadistan or make it a base of some sort.
**QOTD**
1) I doubt it. I don’t talk a lot about my private life, but some details still get shared. So I would not be able to clamp down on it completely.
2) Most likely the Newtype resonance is going to completely throw Sergei’s plan off. That will give Celestial Being the opportunity to escape.
**Rewatcher, Sub-dam Meister**
[Okay, I can finally make this comparison.](https://i.imgur.com/cAynTEQ.jpeg) Gundam 00 Haros are essentially Astromech Droids from Star Wars.
[A simple plan, but effective.](https://i.imgur.com/WxjoNv0.jpeg)
[Almost exactly as Louise predicted.](https://i.imgur.com/HuLvSSc.jpeg)
[So untrusting, Shirin!](https://i.imgur.com/yTwv8fL.jpeg)
[This is not a good scenario for Christina.](https://i.imgur.com/XmbGNAd.jpeg)
[Sergei is quite smart.](https://i.imgur.com/ymLyjLW.jpeg) Of course, whoever he sends as a diversion is almost assuredly going to die.
[Oh course, Sumeragi sees through his counter.](https://i.imgur.com/tMqVvpZ.jpeg) But it might not be enough.
[Christina is.. maybe not cut out for actual combat.](https://i.imgur.com/Se9ckfK.jpeg)
[And to make matters worse, Sumeragi predicted the wrong Enemy Win Condition.](https://i.imgur.com/3MhW6QE.jpeg)
[If you’re curious about Feldt’s parents]>!you can check out Mobile Suit Gundam 00P, a serialized prequel novel.!<

[Okay I totally did not realize](https://i.imgur.com/wYdPTO4.png) [future spoilers]>!Lyle!< showed up this early.
[Not shown: The box Sergei gave her to stand on.](https://i.imgur.com/Vqb4lCS.png)
[So many Haros!](https://i.imgur.com/eHSphMu.png) Celestial Being doesn’t have a lot of manpower, so their ships’ staff is filled out with 28 Haros to perform maintenance tasks. The Haros can dock with Karel repair drones, enabling the Karels to perform more complex and precise tasks.
[Now that’s a cool way to detect GN particles!](https://i.imgur.com/lIO4OV5.png) Unlike Minovsky Particles, which are intentionally scattered during combat for the express purpose of disrupting radar and communications, GN particles just get farted out whether they like it or not and the communications disruption is just a side benefit.
[Time to meet the family!](https://i.imgur.com/c67TuFy.png)
[YOU.](https://i.imgur.com/MHxchor.png) So he has a day job after all.
[**Oof.**](https://i.imgur.com/8dIktWE.png)
[Ah yes, my favorite vegetable, VEGETABLE.](https://i.imgur.com/jiTueaQ.png) Maybe the MRE vegetables are just *that* unconvincing.
[The Tieren Taozi has a new high-speed data processing system!](https://i.imgur.com/F1ku1Hp.png) Rather than projecting images directly onto the pilot’s retina like most HRL suits, it integrates data from multiple sensors into a panoramic holographic display! Because it’s too much data for a regular pilot to keep track of, it was not installed on the standard Tierens, and was reserved for super soldier units such as the Taozi.
[Ruido Resonance, pilot of the Gundam Astraea, and Marlene Vlady, pilot of the Gundam Abulhool.](https://i.imgur.com/MEhDkOq.png) The predecessors to the Exia and Kyrios. [00P]>!They died of GN particle toxicity while rescuing Chall Acustica from an overloading Gundam Plutone.!<
[Reminder that Lockon is 10 years older than her.](https://i.imgur.com/dnmLdT8.png) Granted, not the biggest age gap in Celestial Being romances.
[Peg leg!](https://i.imgur.com/Ewbr2qM.png) Unfortunately, there’s no gatling inside it.
I like Sumeragi and Sergei going up against each other in tactics! It’s always cool to see characters try to out-gambit each other like that.
[Yeah, Christina’s not having a good time.](https://i.imgur.com/8XyxsRf.png) She’s a hacker, not a soldier, and the Ptolemaios is an unarmed carrier ship that’s supposed to stay far away from actual combat. She’s not ready to be in the line of fire.

CHRIS GET IT TOGETHER
**Rewatcher, First Time Sub**
The Wild Bear of Russia is a really cool nickname.
Anyway I loved the Lockon/Feldt moment, It was nice to see more her since she had mostly been the serious member of the duo with the more lovely Christina. We learn some tidbits about Lockon’s backstory which explains his anger towards Tieria and his more serious approach the previous episode, as well as Feldt, the fate of her parents, and how she joined CB in the first. It’s a good boost for her which allows her to remain calm under pressure and reassure everyone in the end showing her coming a bit out of her shell.
Meanwhile it’s Smirnov’s time to take a shot at the Gundam and he’s by far close to being successful, living up to his reputation. One thing I like is how he utilizes Strategy like the use of the comm devices to find the Ship and using feints to separate the Gundams since his own Mobile Units don’t stand a chance but he’s at least able to use the information he knows, particularly about Allelujah to lure him into a trap. Unlike last time it seems Soma is now unaffected by Allelujah though this time we see him apparently recognize her.
Note: Licht took many L’s this episode, indirectly getting rejected by Christina and then not paying enough attention which allows Smirnov to get the drop on them.
Also another Lockon? hmmmm.
**Episode 9 (first timer)**
* Mysterious … brother?
* 60 interventions – and not a single casualty on CB’s side? Impressive.
* The HRL is trying their luck at opposing CB this time.
* A Haro swarm!
* And another swarm, of communication satellites this time – A clever way to spot the Gundams (although I wonder whether simple optics might not work, too). Also a complete nightmare for the geostationary orbit if this fails. If these micro satellites get mixed up in some sort of space fight, you have a ready-made Kessler syndrome recipe.
* “Boyfriend?” “Lover?” “Mom?”
[](#laughter)
* “I heard that all national intelligence agencies gave up on it” – as if they would simply give up on this.
* VEGETABLE – soylent green?
* They left super soldier girl in a mecha despite her attacking their own space station and them having no idea why?
[](#yuishrug)
* “second generation Gundams” – hmmmm.
* They have only a single space in the launch catapult – saves space, but you wonder whether simply letting the Gundams launch on their own power would not be wise. All they need to do is slightly push with their legs, there is no gravity here that would require the force of a catapult.
* “The forth solar power war” – sounds like the establishment of the solar elevators was far from a peaceful endeavor.
* “Container opening” – so they can do exactly what I speculated about.
* “This ship does not have any weapons” – they relied on stealth. Reasonably so.
* The GN field can absorb missiles? Space magic still useful.
* Laser guns being dodged by mecha’s at close range does not make sense.
* “I swore to never make another mistake” – swearing that might have been a mistake.
* Newtype cliff-hanger.
This is probably the most complex space battle of any Gundam series I have seen. Multiple units on both sides, traps inside traps, this is not just a step up, this is a whole different league. It helps a lot that we have additional “things” in space to mix combat up, like the transport ships, the GN field, the mines, the orbital ring. On a tactical level, this is a joy to follow. *Now if only they had used hand-drawn mecha, so it would look good as well.*
> Would you be able to work for a group that required you to never tell anyone about your personal life, even fellow coworkers?
Would I be able to? Yes. Would I want to? No.
> How is Celestial Being supposed to get out of this one?
Time for Sumiragi to show her skills.
**First Timer**
[Two Lockons](https://imgur.com/a/wtwqEAs) and [Five Haros](https://imgur.com/a/eeC4Jz2)…
[](#spinning)
The two Lockons look literally identical so I’m not sure if they’re just supposed to be twins or there’s something wilder going on here (like identity theft or cloning or something).
[](#rengethink)
In a little piece of foreshadowing the episode narration tells us that the main reason for Celestial Beings succuss up to this point has come thanks to the combat superiority of the Gundams, later in the episode we see Sergei use clever strategies to overwhelm and divide the Gundams overcoming their advantage.
Considering how dominant they’ve been until now it’s nice to see the Gundams OP-ness being pegged down and to see our crew actually be worried for once thanks to superior strategy, even if some of the circumstances leading to this battle are a bit…uh, *manufactured*.
[Speaking of foreshadowing](https://imgur.com/a/NFu5dTL), this is one is maybe a little too on the nose guys.
[](#blankblink)
[Saji really just can’t win with these reports](https://imgur.com/a/a2GwFbC), isn’t he supposed to be studying engineering?!
[](#criticism)
Why is the mom cool with [boyfriend](https://imgur.com/a/f8wwsNL) (and so is Saji) but loses it at [lover](https://imgur.com/a/SxzhBNT) lol, also, [Saji fumble no.3247
](https://imgur.com/a/LdfAfPo)
[](#pointandlaugh)
[Well well well](https://imgur.com/a/uukNLs6), I guess Celestial Being has backing from pretty high up the ladder, nice to see Alejandro do something other than menacingly comment on the situation while drinking a cocktail.
[](#azusalaugh)
[Lady you have no idea](https://imgur.com/a/zqtsDOX), interesting move from him to potentially support Azadistan now though, is it part of Celestial Beings plan? is it meant to stop an intervention? or is it meant to start one? [Shirin is right to be cautions of this](https://imgur.com/a/oKUXwU4).
[Also once again thinly veiled political commentary at the U.N’s expense](https://imgur.com/a/CCQhEPU)
[I ship it!](https://imgur.com/a/5xNNVDQ)
[](#loveisatrap)
Lockon and Feldt’s Conversation kind of has huge plot implications?
[](#flyingbunsofdoom)
We learn that Celestial Being has been operating for a while now, enough to have at least 2 other generations of Gundams, 2 of which were her parents, the pilots have enough confidentiality that they don’t know anything about each other (would explain some of the dynamics here) and we learn Lockon’s real name, Neil Dylandy (which frankly also sounds like a fake Irish name but y’know..).
[Theory time]>!I’m guessing Aeolia is actually dead and has been building Celestial Being for a long while now (with that message from the start being pre recorded or something), he probably built Veda to continue his work (or if I want to go really crackpot maybe like added his consciousness to it), I’m also assuming Celestial Being has actually been doing interventions for a while now, just not publicly, with the person who saves Setsuna at the start being a previous member!<
[The rare unintentional modern IRL commentary](https://imgur.com/a/jHUjloP)
[](#kukuku2)
Seeing as the crew is now in dire straits (and not everyone is taking this calmly), seing how they get out of this (or don’t) next episode should be fun.
[Give me mech fights!](#rengehype)
Sidenote: for some reason I decided to use the full Celestial Being name again instead of the initials and writing this comment reminded me why I switched to CB instead.
[](#tiredaoi)
**First Timer – sub**
The writers main goal today: Use *all* of the flags for Lockon.
– Backstory flag
– Real name flag
– Twin flag
– Comfort the girl flag
– Promise to live flag
I think the only major common one they missed was a “borrowed item” flag and I’m genuinely surprised they didn’t work that in too. I am not fond of it, even if the rolling realizations of “oh shit this was on too” was rather fun in the middle of thinking about other things, as every second line in my notes for the second half of the show was a realization of another flag. Hey maybe it’ll prove me wrong, as all of this on top of the Dynamos being the one in the worst shape for combat due to not having armor or working legs, is perhaps a bit too much and maybe the heavy handedness was mere misdirection. But if they were going to not lead this into Lockon dying, I feel like a better way to put tension in the fight would be to spread this around a bit. [speculation]>!The twin is perhaps the most condemning one of them all though. Has any show ever introduced a not-evil identical twin part way into the show without making them either a replacement or cannon fodder for the main twin’s development? Twins are cursed in media!<
I’m also not fond that this episode continues the dumb stick trend. Bringing all four Gundams off Earth at once is silly, as retaliatory threats only work if you can back them up and having a huge opening where no one can respond to the outbreak of a new war or other violence would very much undermine their whole goal, and is only justifiable if Sumeragi knows with absolute certainty there would be no such situation but this episode makes a huge point she can’t predict everything. But top of that, having multiple Gundams, maybe even all four at worst, in for maintenance at once is even stupider given the limited numbers. It seems foolish that any military organization would voluntarily pull 50% of its entire active force out off the battlefield and put them out of commission at the same time in the middle of a long term high risk operation, and it undermines Sumeragi’s strategic characterization to have done so.
Also dumb: I’m pretty sure that Lockon has hit every shot he’s ever been shown to take so far. Today he hit nothing except a couple of missiles. I don’t mind the initial miss and having to readjust and it being a challenge, and maybe it could have been sold better if paired with decent animation, but the hard flip from everything to nothing also makes this feel like contrivance rather than legitimate challenge or skilled piloting by his opponents.
Also does the CB ship remind anyone else of the big cargo ship that handled the different armors for the Liger Zero in Zoids New Century? I’ve been meaning to mention that since episode one and kept forgetting
Tracking CB through the communication dead spots was nice, and was also paired with a nice visual for it. They could have easily done that through simple computer screens or a demonstration, but I liked the tech design for the com devices and the way they were deployed and monitored. It took perhaps one of the “obvious” routes and made something interesting out of it, especially with how Sumeragi responded to it. It’s also a nice balance that one of their strengths is now also a potential long term weakness for them, and the first weakness CB’s tech is shown to have at all.
Similarly interesting: Previous generations of Gundam pilots. We’ve not really gotten into the backstory of CB yet, and that’s fine for being so early in the show, but in my head I thought these were somewhat recent discoveries or creations. If Feldt parents were second gen, then our group must be third gen or so, and that’s a lot of people piloting Gundams across many years without them being known about. History/data manipulation or something more? So far everyone we’ve seen from all three blocs seems surprised they existed, not just that they appeared, and I’m very curious to see what the full context to this may have been. I also still really like Feldt. She’s a small role, but she brings a good dynamic to the scenes, especially today, that sets her apart from a “usual” bridge bunny or general member of CB as a whole. I hope we get more of her, and I also hope I didn’t just curse her by saying so.
So far not a since scene with Louise has added value to the show for me. On the other hand, suddenly that one guy from CB who kept meeting with Wang becomes important because he’s a UN ambassador, just after I said yesterday to No_Rex I don’t know why he exists in the story, so that was funny timing. I do appreciate the early tease with him though rather than just having him pop up.
*A Gundam Fan Rewatches Gundam 00 Episode 9:*
– Surprise! Lockon has a twin brother! What do you think his name is? Maybe something like Missed Terra?
– Interesting that it’s only the HRL that’s bothering to still openly oppose Celestial Being, while the other power blocs don’t care as long as it’s outside of their spheres of influence. But I guess with managing to get even more interventions in during the meantime, it does send a message about how Celestial Being is here to stay. And when something just seems that determined, I imagine a lot of people are just content to acknowledge that they exist at best, at least until it happens to them. The interventions are becoming routine.
– The HRL’s plan to capture the Gundams is pretty well thought through, considering what they know of their capabilities. As we all know, signals get jammed as soon as they launch in any given area. So why not launch so many signal probes all over the place that their interference would stick out like a sore thumb in that array? It’s fun to see the power blocs adapt to what Celestial Being does, it shows that they certainly aren’t stupid.
– You know, seeing how Louise’s mother is around Saji and Louise too, I think you can see where Louise gets a good chunk of her character from. She is kind of like a younger version of her mother, in a way.
– Oh hey, now we’re actually seeing what Alejandro does as his day job: he’s an ambassador and negotiator working for the United Nations. Celestial Being certainly does have friends in high places, if one of the people in the know about them is working for an international governing body like that. It at least isn’t all just rich people like Wang, I guess.
– “Babe, you haven’t touched your green block of vegetable yet, what’s the matter?” Joking aside, man the mood is kinda dire aboard the Ptolemaios. Poor Feldt is having some kind of emotional spiral, Lichty has a crush on Christina that’s going nowhere, and the tension between Setsuna and Tieria is so bad that it kills the vibe in pretty much any room they’re in. If there’s one thing that Celestial Being really needs, it’s probably an HR department.
– At least it’s nice that Lockon and Feldt are bonding and opening up about themselves. Feldt’s parents were a previous generation of Gundam Meisters, and due to Celestial Being’s code of secrecy, she knows nothing about the mission that killed them. As for Lockon, his parents were killed in a terrorist attack in his native Ireland. Also, Lockon Stratos isn’t his actual name. His real name is Neil Dylandy. It’s a surprisingly mundane name compared to the one he uses while on the job. We’re up to three members of Celestial Being that we know are using fake names now. Think there’ll be any more?
– So, this is how a battle goes when Celestial Being doesn’t have the benefit of surprise and has to play defensively. It’s an interesting reversal of the usual dynamic. Colonel Sergei really is proving that he’s good enough to keep up with Sumeragi’s counter plans. Not to mention that they don’t have Veda’s guidance on what to do here, since this isn’t one of their normal interventions. This is as about as even as you can make an encounter between one of the power blocs and Celestial Being. And so far, Sumeragi is getting outplayed.
– “The Wild Bear of Russia” is a hell of a cool title for Colonel Sergei. But given how clever he’s proving to be, he’s absolutely earning that title. It’s no wonder that Sumeragi mentioned previously studying his tactics if he’s proving to be this clever.
– Managing to sneak 36 Tierens past Sumeragi’s notice is some Ursarkar E. Creed shit. With something that nuts, it’s no wonder what Sumeragi was outplayed by our resident Wild Bear of Russia. And just to make things worse for her, Allelujah is suddenly having another one of those mental episodes due to Soma’s presence. Like she said, her forecast ended up being completely off here, nothing is going good for her plans. Facing off against Colonel Sergei’s tactics really is pushing her to her limits.
**First timer, subs**
* …Am I supposed to know the other one?
* That’s one every two days. What the observatories doing? Those GN particles don’t seem to be fucking optical views.
* Was Australia always in the Union? Did I just flub that one?
* This is a lot of white guys for a group that has China and India in it.
* Overhaul? I’m still not sure how to count the mid-season upgrade since this is split into two seasons.
* [The Subbiest of **Sub-Satellites**](#loli_ok)
* Like tracking a hurricane by power outages. Very clever.
* You know, I’m unsure if you guys are in college or high school, and that has a big impact on how the mum should be viewed here.
* [Haro Flock](#merch)
* At least she’s honest?
* So they do seemingly have a counter measure, but all the competent ones left the bridge.
* Oh nice. That’s a big tech jump to get done so quickly.
* So this is at least the third generation of your super robot corp, and no one noticed before?
* Y’all need more support staff. How many bodyguards you got, but don’t have a relief radar operator?
* The fourth solar power war? Y’all need to get a little more creative with your names. You don’t see them call anything the “15th oil war”, do you?
* [Bubble Explosion](#feelsgoodman)
* Nothing substitutes field experience.
* The start of psychic warfare.

Lockon’s got… a twin?
Four months, 60 interventions, since we haven’t seen that many seems like there’s been a bit of a time skip here?
Interesting that only the Human Reform League is willing to initiate anything with Celestial being and the other two are purely in a defensive position, even with Graham’s squadron having essentially the same goal as Sergei, and the AEU, well they have the best pilot in the show with Patrick Colasour…
Everyone’s back in space.
OMG, so many Haros! So cute!
Celestial Being now has become an actual term paper subject Saji has to write on now. Poor Saji, he has a literal Gundam Meister living next door, the perfect reference for such a paper (especially since as we saw yesterday he’s okay with blabbing about who he is), yet Saji is totally ignorant about it.
Louise reuniting with her mom was the screenshot for this episode on Crunchyroll. Until I saw that screenshot I forgot this totally stupid part of the storyline existed. Sigh.
Louise can literally be dragged away to be taken out of the country and wet cardboard Saji will barely do anything about it…
Marina’s actually getting help from the UN? Who even is the UN in an era where three non-UN political blocs are the main powers in the world?
Alejandro? So presumably this is his “official” role while he’s secretly a part of Celestial Being on the side.
So nice of Lichty, who has barely had a chance to show any personality thus far, to help Christina here. Then she puts him down seconds later, lol.
Poor Christina, stuck in a lunch room with Setsuna and Tieria…
There was an episode of Cowboy Bebop (Heavy Metal Queen) that had large ships that looked kinda like these Human Reform League ones, at least in terms of their shape. They were a lot more colorful in Bebop.
So there were prior Gundam pilots and Feldt is the kid of two of them? Gundam 00 prequel when?
You mean to tell me Lockon Stratos was not his real name? Alright, by this point you’ve got to wonder if all members of Celestial Being are using code names.
Lichty, you had one job!
Soma’s mobile suit being pink is going to stand out all the more since all the others have this bluish color and otherwise look a lot like it.
Sumeragi knows her opponent and her history.
So Sergei pays no mind at attacking the Ptolemy when its right in front of those solar power antennas. I figured that was part of Sumeragi’s strategy.
Christina’s the one freaking out while Feldt’s calm and collected, can’t say I expected that.
While Soma’s mobile suit was fixed up to ensure no more freakouts, can’t say the same for Allelujah.

**Quid’s Voice Actor of the Day**
Today I’ll be focusing on **Feldt Grace**. She is voiced in Japanese by **Ayahi Takagaki**. This was her first Gundam role, but she’ll return to the franchise several times including as Decil Galette in Gundam AGE and Manny Ambassada in Gundam Reconguista in G. I would assume she’s most well known in /r/anime circles as Chris Yukine from the Symphogear franchise. She also appears as Jade in Land of the Lustrous, Erika Karisawa in Durarara!, Shirley in Fate Zero, Wei Lu in Astra Lost in Space and Sylvie Lumier in Baccano!
In English she is voiced by **Chantal Strand**. Her first Gundam role was as Lacus Clyne in Gundam Seed, with her reprising that role in Gundam Seed Destiny and also voicing Meer Campbell, the most useless Gundam character to ever get a clip show dedicated to her, lol. I’ve also heard her as Akari Comodo in Brain Powered and Mayu and Asuka in Inuyasha. She has also appeared in a wide variety of western animation, quite a bit more than her anime work in fact.

**Kidou Senshi Rewatcher 00**
The first half of this episode feels very transitory, setting up the state of the world & plot going forward now that CB’s place in the world has settled in, so to speak. We get some looks at where plot threads outside of CB, specifically Saji/Louise & Azadistan, are headed in ways that are more meant to be payed off in future episodes but does give us the general sense that the wider plot is headed in a new direction.
I like how we get some normal SoL of the Meisters & the Ptolemaios crew, felt like there hasn’t been quite enough of that these last few eps. The awkwardness of the notably hyperactive Chris trying to have dinner with the human equivalents of two brick walls was pretty funny.
The second half is where things really take off, as the show takes off into another extended battle, but makes it more interesting than most of the ones previously through the introduction of tactics. Most of the battles up until this point have had tactical aspects, but they weren’t really focused on much, and they didn’t really need to be, Celestial Being’s technological superiority was such a steamroller that the minutia of either side’s battle plan didn’t exactly move the needle much, especially when the characters moments & world impact were the real stars, so that aspect of the fighting took a backseat.
Now, though, with the setting having a better understanding of how CB operates, it only makes sense that people would finally start taking advantage of their blindspots, and the way it ratchets up the tension of the fights is so satisfying to see. The grid of two-way communicators is already a great concept for how it takes one of the Gundams’ greatest advantages, the communications-disrupting properties of the GN Drives, & turns it into a liability, & then it just escalates with the clash of intellects between Sergei & Sumeragi. From the feints used to draw in the Gundams to taking advantage of Lockon’s blind spot to distracting Sumeragi from their actual goals, you really do get a palpable sense of how well-planned Sergei’s strategy is.
The sense of tension is helped even further by the scenes in the bridge. Chris’ freakout was really good in how it made you feel her sense of terror, and also made her contrast with Feldt even more pronounced.
If I had to criticize one thing, it’d have to be that it definitely relies on the classic “treat Space as if its two-dimensional” fallacy, but that’s such a common sci-fi thing & the tension in the fight still works regardless, so I don’t see much point in faulting it for that.
Before I leave off for this episode, one last thing: [00 Season 2 stuff]>!***[BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!](https://imgur.com/a/og0brHl)*** [](#TROLOLOL) Lyle’s proper introduction is gonna be *veeeeeeeery* interesting!<
**First Timer**
Starting off the episode today with a graveside visit with Lockon and … Lockon? That part was a bit abrupt lol. Lockon’s comments do suggest that he’s aware he has a lookalike running around and that this isn’t an evil twin or clone situation.
Lockon’s attempts to comfort Feldt were sweet but also felt a bit awkward to me (mostly because the dialogue in this show can be a bit stiff during more personal moments) … but then you compare that scene to poor Christina’s dinner table conversation with Setsuna and Tieria and realize things could be worse. Still, natural or not, it’s nice to get some confirmation about Lockon’s past and a look at how secretive Celestial Being really is. We know that both Lockon and Setsuna’s names are aliases, which I presume (or hope) is the same for Allelujah and Tieria. I’m curious to know if everyone else in the organization is also going by a codename.
Earlier episodes made me wonder if there’s a connection between Allelujah and Soma, and today’s events only confirm my suspicions. I wonder if Allelujah was also part of a similar genetic modification program and if that has anything to do with why he was selected as a Gundam Meister … but Lockon and Setsuna seemed to have lived fairly normal lives, at least before war and terrorism messed them up, which would put a damper on that theory.
###Stitches!
* [Christina](https://i.imgur.com/wdJZWg8.jpeg)
* [Soma](https://i.imgur.com/1aWkLPH.jpeg)
[Lockon has a twin brother?](https://i.imgur.com/1Uq4a5Q.jpeg) That’s interesting. Does he know what his brother is doing? Hmmm…
[So many Haros!](https://i.imgur.com/NPmV6J5.jpeg) I thought they only have that one Lockon uses to assist him with Dynames but it looks like there are a bunch more [and they do maintenance work](https://i.imgur.com/7IZ6aUM.jpeg) when back at the Ptolemaios
[That entire scene between Saji, Louise, and her mother](https://i.imgur.com/pxpzAAn.jpeg) was pretty funny. I love how neither of them reacts when Louise calls Saji her boyfriend but they all freak out [after she calls him her love.](https://i.imgur.com/iVFP2LD.jpeg) xD
There’s not a lot of camaraderie between the Gundam Meisters, huh? They all work well together but when they’re back on the ship they feel like they’re just coworkers instead of brothers-in-arms. We don’t really see them hang out or do anything together. I feel bad for [Christina who had to endure that awkward silence](https://i.imgur.com/ZZKDySk.jpeg) when she ate with Setsuna and Tieria.
[I really like that scene between Lockon and Feldt though.](https://i.imgur.com/3gEVIMB.jpeg) So Feldt’s parents are also second-generation Gundam Meisters? I guess this means Celestial Being have been operating for a while now and this is just the first time they’re known to the public. Anyway, [I ship it.](https://i.imgur.com/jad4HtT.jpeg)
Well fuck. It looks like HRL [finally got the drop on CB](https://i.imgur.com/pWT0cv7.jpeg) and everything is going to shit fast. It’s already bad enough that [Dynames isn’t 100% operational](https://i.imgur.com/gRPn0P7.jpeg) but it looks like Sumeragi got outmaneuvered by Sergei calling her bluff with another bluff and now [the Ptolemaios is getting swarmed.](https://i.imgur.com/60YlMu3.jpeg)
And to make things worse Hallelujah is going up against Soma and those weird headaches are back. It looks like the HRL might pull this off but there’s no way, right? I’d be very shocked if they actually ended up stealing a Gundam in Episode 10 because that means one of our Gundam pilots would either get killed or captured.

[](#merch)
The main operation in this episode. I really don’t have much to say other than “Wow, Sergei really got us good.” The danger of facing a man who actually knows what he’s doing.
He kind of gives me Ramba Ral vibes. Older veteran soldier who gives our heroes a real run for their money. The thing that made me click that connection were the transport vehicles of all things. Just reminded me of those solider transport vehicles Ramba Ral used in his assault on White Base. Those two transports don’t even serve the same purpose, they just gave me a similar vibe.

Bit of a Christina episode. It felt like she had a bunch of scenes today. From having the most [awkward lunch break party composition](https://i.imgur.com/MxgbYUn.png) possible to her having a trauma triggering during the battle. For a moment, I thought [Christina calling out Allelujah](https://i.imgur.com/PbQgI46.png) to save them was a sudden reveal about their relationship, before realizing it was probably just her wishing he returned from the distraction mission.
[Gundam 00:] >!Christina x Allelujah, now that’s a crackship. I guess that they talked last episode so they had 1 scene together? I don’t remember the two having many scenes together.!<
[The talk between Lockon and Feldt was nice](https://i.imgur.com/75nsQxu.png) to have some personal bonding for once. Feldt really do be dropping her main character backstory with how [both of her parents were Gundam pilots.](https://i.imgur.com/N6CuxPX.png)
Just mentioning how I thought [the setting of this battle](https://i.imgur.com/PH4opLU.png) was really neat. Space battles, but ones that take around space structures are always neat.

[Gundam 00:] >!That opening scene with the two Lockons, huh. Wonder how people take that. [](#mug3)!<
**Q1)** That’s already my default approach.

**Rewatcher**
Two Lockons? What’s up with that?
[00 Spoilers] >!Shoulda talked to your brother, Neil. Lyle didn’t deserve to find out about your death because some milk-drinking kid broke the news while trying to recruit him to the same role that got you killed. By the way, go track down and read Gundam 00: Wanderer. Cool snippet related to this.!<
Haros cute.
The strategy with the comlinks may be simple but it’s definitely an effective way of finding the enemy. If you can’t see anything around them, simply look for that instead.
I feel like it’s a bit soon to assign papers based on an ongoing world event, it hasn’t even been a year. But I haven’t attended university in the Japan of 2307 so what do I know.
[00 Spoilers] >!Louise’s mum uses the same wording as Graham when he arrives in the GN Flag, made the moment a bit weird to me ngl.!<
Looks like Marina has found a more promising lead for energy aid, but look who’s heading up the UN delegation.
RIP Lichty, how sad.
Soma gets a plugsuit, because sure why not.
[00 Spoilers] >!Considering how interesting Feldt’s backstory is, it’s honestly pretty wasted by the series. She just kinda ends up continuing her role as a bridge bunny, and the whole “child of Meisters” thing never really becomes relevant.!<
Dynames’s missiles work in a pretty unconventional way. Instead of carrying explosives or doing damage by raw kinetic force, they instead inject GN particles directly into the target, which somehow rips it apart from the inside. Nasty stuff.
Not fond of how ineffective Dynames is in this scene. Lockon is supposed to be this superhumanly good sniper who can draw a bead on a target even from hundreds of kilometres away, but a bum leg makes him completely useless? Is that even how aiming works?
Well, it’s not like the effectiveness of the attack on the Ptolemy really mattered that much for Sergei’s overall plan.
For some reason, Kyrios detects the mines as AEU-05, which is the designation for the Hellion, the AEU’s mass-produced mobile suit. Probably just Sunrise saving a bit of effort on a minor detail.
[00 Spoilers] >!One more chance for first timers to notice the missing GN-004. Let’s see if it happens.!<
First timer. Dubbed.
Lol I had to do a doubletake and rewind upon seeing 2 Lockons at the same time in the same frame.
SIXTY INTERVENTIONS! THEY DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE IT TO CHANCE HUH?
AEU & Union: look we don’t want no smoke OK? Fighting you costs us money.
HRL: ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS GRILL, BITCH!
The fuckboi of Celestial Being is the ambassador of the UN? I’m sure Ms Asshole Assistant will go head over heels once she realizes who Alejandro is.
“It’s just too bad you’re not really my type.” – OOF!
I’m only now realizing that the Colonels surname is Smirnoff lmao. But still you gotta hand it to the so-called Wild Bear of Russia, his use of an old tactic of his is quite effective due to the fact that his opponent didn’t expect him to use it, which is funny given her job m
“hey character in a Gundam show, make sure you survive okay?” – Niel doesn’t know what franchise he’s a part of.

* [Goddamn he looks hot in a suit](https://i.imgur.com/euTtd2s.jpeg), who’s grave is he visiting though? His family?

* [My bet’s on this guy](https://i.imgur.com/4ExIxBH.jpeg) being the one pulling the strings. [](#csikon)
* [Eating with those two](https://i.imgur.com/5iQ70Zf.jpeg) should count as a form of punishment.
* [Well, this tells us about their organisation and just how long the Gundams has been around](https://i.imgur.com/sKBNOcK.jpeg)
* [Cool name](https://i.imgur.com/KPxeGBj.jpeg) you’re still Lockon though.
* It’s nice to see CB finally being given a run for their money, Sergei doesn’t have the best mechs, but he’s got the most experience, better strategy, and the desperation to get things done.
>1) Would you be able to work for a group that required you to never tell anyone about your personal life, even fellow coworkers?
Sure, I don’t like talking a lot about my personal life at work in the first place, so suits me just fine.
>2) How is Celestial Being supposed to get out of this one?
Hallelujah could help?
So I’m accidentally almost exactly a season ahead due to binging while flying in an airplane oops. Oh well, lessee if I can still be of any use in this rewatch…
The absolute secrecy between members of the organization seemed silly at best to me when watching, and outright dangerous at worst. You know, probably, that each of the meisters have their own trauma that drove them to Celestial Being, and that with so few active units that even one being affected and diverting from the plan can risk the lives of them all. I think it’d be much, much safer for the other meisters to at least know what types of scenarios are likely to trigger each other so that they can plan around it instead of being thrown into chaos when it does happen.
Yes, there’s issues with leaking each other’s identities if you’re captured or whatever, but honestly, if any of them are captured and tortured for info all of Celestial Being’s probably doomed anyways. They know the names of their major informants and spy networks, and general information about Veda should do the rest.
Not rewatching, but came across this thread. I’ve got a good amount of fun nostalgia for Gundam 00 as it was the first Gundam series I spent a good amount of time discussing online.
Always loved the consistent use of dramatic full-name call-outs.
Love some of that “SETSUNA F SEIEI”, etc.
A grave?
What are they launching?
Her mum came to visit her?
Of course she said that…
It’s definitely newsworthy.
Energy crisis?
And so back to the ship.
Seems they’ve been found.
And so she’s back in the fight.
Ireland? But there’s no “O'” in his name.
Yup, they’ve been found.
Hmm… That’s a good idea.
The plan was flawed the moment your plan depended on the enemy playing along.
All hands, brace for impact!
She’s got shell-shock.
Here they come!
Mines!
And so here she is.
Questions:
1. Nope.
2. Looks like things aren’t going according to plan.
