  1. I think you confuse morals whit Christianity, they are related but they are not the same…

It’s christian propaganda even for christians. Most US christians forgot the “love your enemy” part of christianity.

  3. Much prefered season 2, but it wouldnt have worked without the over the top season 1.

OP when he finds out what religion the Viking countries switched to after the 1100s…

  5. It seems to me that this is not so much about Christianity as the influence of the Japanese pacifism. In addition, Christianity in those days, despite the same dogma, was very different from Christianity now. In those days it was believed that you sinned if you did something bad in relation to your one (Christians), which, however, happened quite often. Remember at least that going on a crusade of Jerusalem, the Europeans decided to stop along the way to rob Constantinople.

Although, I generally support the ideas presented in the anime and manga, but they are very weak according to real life. Thorfinn defeats his enemies due to superhero dexterity and speed (supposedly the results of training, but let’s be honest, it’s just the action that the Japanese like’s in anime), you cannot defeat all enemies being unarmed. As you cannot convince them not to be your enemies.

We have an example from real life – Russia wants to enslave Ukraine, waging an aggressive war, washing the cities to the foundations, it doesn’t care about lives of people – strangers or their own. Persuasions and calls to the peace do not work, only power.

The Argument of Thorfinn in a conversation with King Canute – that he will run away from the battle with him as far as he could. Again, an example from real life: Russia deliberately provoked a migrant crisis in Europe, having arranged a massacre in Sudan, Russia strengthened this crisis by forcing refugees from Africa (which she promised a free transition to Europe) to storm the Polish border and destroying cities in eastern Ukraine, destroying energy infrastructure and terrorizing the population.

Europe is radicalized, and more and more often the rightwing parties win the elections, people wants to expel refugees from their countries. If Russia captured Ukraine, this would lead to mass emigration to Europe 20+ million people (already 8 out of 40 million left Ukraine) that would run from repressions. This would also provoke the flight of several million people from Poland and the Baltic countries, who would be afraid to become the following.

It is also not possible to defeat enemies without killing them (as Thorfinn will try to do further). Russian prisoners of war have the proper conditions of detention, receive money for work, full meals, can call home, while 95% of the Ukrainian military are captured. Russian drones are hunting for civilians just for fun or intimidation. You can assume that you have no enemies, but you cannot convince the enemy who wants to kill you. Therefore, seeing the ideas of pacifism in such anime is as strange, as if it would be in the “Game of thrones”. And the only reason why it works in anime – because the author wanted it to work.

That must’ve flown over my head in S2 cause I didn’t think about that, as well I’m assuming in the future he still avoids killing but isn’t anywhere near resistant to avoid violence but still does so, context this is from someone who only watch the Dub anime so idk about onwards part
