Hubert is the biggest badass I’ve seen this season, and he really inspired his successor.
I love Rafal slowly beginning to commit more and more sins as he delves deeper into astrology, becoming a liar to keep his studies growing and hidden. To him and Hubert, their religion and their studies are one and the same, but they live in a world where they must choose and trying to have both leads to grisly ends.
They dropped 2 episodes at once?
Can we talk about how good the op is for a sec? I dont think the actual show looks bad per se, its definitely pretty alright, but the op just looks amazing, even if it takes a few seconds to get going.
It was directed by tooru iwazawa, the action director of frieren and just a great animator in general.
Episode 2?! I thought it was one…
This is really a story of rebellion by the book but damn it does so well in terms of writing and animation really looks pretty too.
He is really a prime example of a badass , he keeps going even if final results might be the reaper awaiting for him.
The story is really intense and violence ,not just visual but atmosphere like it have outright oppressive atmosphere but somehow also feel inspiring? I don’t know how to describe but you got the feeling.
This one is going to be a gem for sure.

Rafal is seriously on track to become one of my favorite MLs of the year, if not overall. He has such a nuanced personality imo, he uses his head and is impressively intelligent, especially considering his young age, and all that without being edgy.
I just wanna say Nowak was perfectly voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda. While he’s the antagonist, the driving force of his actions was the most trivial among the main cast. He’s simply driven by his love towards his family, and by extension he thought it’s essential to remove the heretics who he deemed would destabilise the society.
That transition to the OP was so good! From Rafal looking down at the table (pre-OP) to him looking straight into the camera (OP). I honestly didn’t notice before the music started playing.

These are some very wise words from Hubert. Some of the greatest achievement in science were only made possible because of the groundwork that was laid with seemingly wrong answers. It was often only with the emergence of new scientific tools that man could make sense of these wrong answers and turn them into correct theories.
It’s interesting in this regard that Hubert did *not* want his research to live on – something that goes against the conviction of most scholars. Did his letter imply that he might’ve wanted to keep the beauty of the universe to himself?
Rafal thinks different however, as he’s set on moving the Heavens and Earth to prove the existence of heliocentrism!

Sounds like dad is a despicable heretic to me (lots of books, his friend is a heretic), he’s going to get killed off, isn’t he?

Great OP!!! I love the plot too!
These were really great first two episodes, I’m on board for sure. I’ve also heard great things from manga readers. I expected Hubert to die but not THIS quickly, and that Nowak scene with the kid walking in on him and the dad was…messed up. I don’t know what torture device was used there but I’m also scared to find out lol.
