aaaah I can’t believe the day is finally here. Ranma was my favorite when I was growing up, it just had that rumiko takahashi charm that other series lacked (the only other being Inuyasha here on german tv). I was sad when it got canned after just 80 episodes for the german dub, so I went into the local library which had the manga and devoured the entire series over the span of a single week. ever since then I was always hoping to someday get a continuation or something new with the anime. then the news of a new Urusei Yatsura adaption came out and my hope rose once more. now, 20 years after picking this up as my first manga I am sooo happy to be back with one of my all time favorite character casts in a beautiful looking new series. couldn’t be any happier right now. 🙂
edit: I just checked out the german dub of this and IT’S PEAK! they brought back everyone they could. so far only male Ranma has a new VA since the original german one passed away in 2007.
Ranma 1/2 gets the Urusei Yatsura remake treatment! Complete with high-tier production values, banger theme songs, a lot of fun gender-bending romcom action antics, and unlike UY the return of the original cast to their iconic roles!
This was really good! I am not a huge fan of Ranma 1/2(for me The author has many better stories) but i have faith this gonna be again a good adaptation
Damn they recast everyone in the dub. David Kaye is in credits though.
Needs Yapapa OP, but still a good OP. And man, great to see Ranma again. Peak Rumiko Takahashi work.

also i finished the OG series (minus the movies and OVAs) just in time for the remake. like the UY remake, the animation is very good and you can tell the staff were passionate about this project. i’ll admit i’m a tad mixed on reusing the original VAs. one one hand it’s nice to hear them all again after all this time, but you can definitely hear the age in some of their voices

It hits all the same beats of the original Ep 1, though not identical.
I’m still very impressed that they managed to get almost all the original VAs to reprise their roles for the remake. Only ones that were replaced were the VAs that have passed away since the original and Genma since his original VA is now the narrator, probably because he’s 82 now and can’t do Genma’s voice anymore.
The first episode already made me realize how I miss every character from back in the day. Nabiki and her antic is my spirit mood and she just as hot as the day I remember it.
Favorite anime /manga back then. So happy it’s back
