If you want to focus more on realism on character design and do more details for the character I’d say 2x, but if you want something that has simple character designs or simple clothes and shapes then 3x is suitable.
( if your focus is something else than realism and many details on the art, like if the story is the focus, then 3x will serve as the thing that helps the characters pop out from the background and show the silhouette)

Depends on what you’re going for; I’m personally a fan of thinner line work because I think it looks cleaner.
