With or without hyphen?

  1. You’re suppose to be translating. So it should be brother or big brother. I don’t know why I’m reading subtitles then they just use Onii-chan or Onee-chan. Huh? That isn’t English.

And if it was all in Japanese they wouldn’t be romanized subtitles. So I’m just confused.

  2. The way I do it, if it is by itself, it’s Onii-chan. If it is attached to a name, say, Kazuki is the name, it’s Kazuki-oniichan.

  3. There is no hyphen in the Japanese spelling. Therefore, the hyphen is added for localization. So, do you prefer a more literal spelling, or a more localized one? 🤔
